2 August 2010

ST. PAUL - Former Vice President Walter Mondale will be keynote speaker Tuesday at a ceremony dedicating a Workers Memorial on the grounds of the state Capitol. The event is open to the public.

The ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. with music by the Twin Cities Labor Chorus. The memorial is located on the southeast corner of the Capitol grounds, near the corner of 12th and Cedar Streets.

The memorial honors the contributions of Minnesota workers, particularly those killed or injured on the job. The dedication is the culmination of more than a decade of hard work spearheaded by Minnesota AFL-CIO President Emeritus Dave Roe.

In addition to Mondale, speakers will include Roe, Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson and Minnesota Building & Construction Trades Council President Harry Melander.

The dedication is scheduled to end at noon and will be followed with refreshments.
