Today in Labor History Aug 2, Sixty strikers wounded by police in Scranton

August 2

August 2, 1867 - Sixty striking miners were wounded by police in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

August 2, 1924 - James Baldwin, author of Go Tell It On the Mountain, and the collection of essays, Nobody Knows My Name, was born in Harlem . His work explored the experiences of African-Americans.

Hatch Act is passed, limiting political activity of executive branch employees of the federal government - 1939
