[Old and In the Way]

I'm watching this movie on TPM now and I am really amazed at the core story...it's about control of a company pitting the financial whiz that cares about the stockholder ROI and the manufacturing guy that has a vision about the future and the need to invest in manufacturing technology, R&D, and the workers who make the products. The manufacturing guy (William Holden) gives an impassioned, last minute defense of his vision and ends up winning the board's confidence over the corrupt financial guy.

This debate has played out in boardrooms and corporate suites thousands and thousands of times since this movie was made. Sadly, the financial guys won out....

If you haven't seen it, I really recommend it - it's as relevant today, maybe even more so, as it waas then and provides some understanding as to why we no longer manufacture stuff here today. This is one movie that ought to be remade today.
