Northrup Grumman has begun layoffs at Avondale shipyard on the Gulf Coast. have started at Avondale shipyard on the Gulf Coast. It plans to destroy 5,000 jobs at Avondale and close the shipyard – despite a Nay announcement last month that it plans to keep Avondale busy with work. The AFL-CIO says another 7,000 jobs will be lost when the 5,000 Avondale workers are laid off. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says Northrup Grumman is taking advantage of tax loopholes that make it more profitable to cut the jobs than keep the facility open.

1. I was just watching a piece on the History Channel about

building the USS NY and how the workers and everyone along the Gulf Coast pulled together despite Katrina and all the troubles to get this "fantastic" ship built and underway.


Now they get layoffs, despite the work being available?????
