Florida High Speed and Light Rail, why are our Fl. Dems not ........
Edited on Sat Oct-09-10 08:51 AM by Rebellious Republica
I also posted this in the Florida forum, but thought it would also fit well here as well.

Pushing JOBS, JOBS, JOBS. I just watched a piece on Bay news nine about the rail system, The pub was saying that raising taxes to do this would be the worst thing you could do during these poor economic times.

Jim Davis rebuttal was that it would save us money in the long run, to cut down on the cost of maintaining our roads.

Why are our Dems not pushing that these projects would create jobs for Floridians, which is the best thing you can do for our poor economy. Think of all the jobs it would create from surveyors to construction, to the employees that would eventually be needed to run the system when completed. It just boogles the mind how many people would be needed in all feilds to do this!

Is it just me, does this not sound like something that struggling out of work Floridians might want to hear.

Most common people do not give at rat’s ass about the cost of road repair; they care about being able to put food on their table, keep a roof over their heads and providing for their families.

1. Public transportation in Florida and its widespread use
would bring massive unemployment to accident and injury lawyers.

5. True, but a two-edged sword.
Too easy to demagogue the other way: "Your tax dollars, which you can barely afford in these hard times, went to the state, who in turn hired over-paid, mobbed-up, minority-hiring, affirmative-action practicing union labor to build something white people don't use."

For 80% of voters mass transit = colored transit. And inter-city rail is a heretical challenge to the one-person, one-car, all-the-time American religion.

both in Europe and most major cities in the US. I think you may be right to a point.

I also know if you ask most people say in places like D.C., New York, and Atlanta and just about anywhere in Europe. You may get an argument about your theory when it comes to trains. I know many White collar, white people that use trains.

I believe you about busses, there does seem to be a stigma about bus transportation in this country.

Thanks for your input, there is some merit in your observations. How ever this is Florida and we do get many people from far away places that are used to having the conveniences of trains.

:hi:

7. They go home...
...and vote for it back where they came from. Go up the panhandle, to the Florida that was one of the original secession states in 1861, up to Baja Georgia, and it's a different story.

For now they are only speaking of connecting Orlando to Tampa and possibly Miami with High speed trains with light rail spurs to and from airports, cruise terminals and major attractions.

Yep, I agree there not many branches on some of those family trees up there, if you know what I mean. ;)
