The Alliance for American Manufacturing is kicking off a series of Town Hall meetings across America today in its Keep It Made In America tour. Alliance spokesman Steve Cappozola says it will confront politicians with questions about what they intend to do to strengthen U.S. manufacturing.
: “It's basically to prompt voters to ask their candidates what are you going to do to save U.S. manufacturing? What are you going to do about trade with China? We need to have balanced trade. I need to hear from you as my candidate, what are you going to do to save my job?"
Next year China is expected to displace the U.S. as the number one manufacturing power in the world. It would be the first time in 110 years that another country has surpassed the U.S. in manufacturing. Cappozzola says the Alliance For American Manufacturing recognizes the need to revitalize U.S. manufacturing. Manufacturers and the United Steel Workers are working together to reverse the U.S. manufacturing decline. USW President Leo Gerard.
: “We've come together now because e clearly have a mutual interest in having a strong manufacturing industry n America. Over the last number years we've lost close to three million industrial jobs. It's very important that America have a strong industrial base if it's going to continue to be a strong and dominant force in the world."
