Annville-Cleona faculty rejects arbitrator’s report

The Annville-Cleona teachers’ union voted overwhelmingly last night to reject an arbitrator’s report in the union’s long-running contract dispute with the school board.

“The vote was decisive,” said Myra Reichart, a communications specialist for the Pennsylvania State Education Association, an umbrella organization that represents teachers’ unions. “They had a lot of discussion, and they are bound and determined to go back to the bargaining table and bargain a contract.”

The main reason the teachers rejected the report, Reichart said, was because it was basically the same as the report issued by a state-appointed fact-finder in April.

“They had already rejected that report twice, and there was no compelling reason to accept it now,” she said.

Reichart said there were several teachers who voted to accept the report, but the overwhelming majority of the teachers present at last night’s meeting voted to reject it.
