House Economic Stimulus Leaves Out Extension of Unemployment Benefits

http://www.laborradio.org/node/7774

By Doug Cunningham

The U.S. House has a deal with the White House on an economic stimulus package aimed at trying to ease the effects of a recession. If you’re poor, but earned at least $3,000 in 2007 you will get a $300 check. Workers who made $75,000 or less will get a $600 check. Married couples who earned $150,000 or less will get $1200. The Senate will have to agree before the checks are in the mail. The House version of this stimulus does not extend unemployment benefits and it doesn’t increase food stamp allotments, either.
