After contentious campaign nurses at Parkview Community Hospital join union

http://www.laborradio.org/node/7984

After a contentious labor campaign, nurses at Parkview Community Hospital in Riverside California voted to join the United Nurses Association of California/Union of Health Care Professionals. Leilani Albano has more on the story.
Parkview’s 260 nurses were elated over news of their win, after having endured ongoing intimidation and harassment in the months leading up to the elections.

Says ER nurse, Don Griffin:

(Griffin) I think it’s great. It’s a big step for Parkview.

While UNAC officials didn't say how many voted in support of labor representation in the elections that took place earlier this month, they say a majority of the registered nurses supported the union drive.
Laureen Lazarovici is spokeswoman for UNAC.

(Lazarovici) They are very excited that they were able to choose courage over fear, and they are very excited about going into contract negotiations.

With union elections behind them, nurses will now enter contract negotiations, where they will have to sort out the most basic needs of the hospital.
