DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. (AXL) said the three-day-old strike strike by 3,650 workers at five of its plants remains in effect.

The Detroit-based auto parts maker said its United Automobile Workers union- represented plants affected by the stoppage have been unprofitable for years.

American Axle denies claims the company has engaged in unfair labor practices or violated labor laws.

The strike has affected auto plants owned by General Motors Corp. (GM), which temporarily laid off 2,500 workers at Pontiac truck plant Thursday due to the strike.

Shares in American Axle rebounded after hours, climbing 37 cents to $20.12 after having slid 7.9%, or $1.69, by the close of the regular session.
