WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — Students at Holy Redeemer High School in Wilkes-Barre who participated in a walkout are facing detention.

A majority of the students walked out of homeroom Friday and rallied outside to support their teachers' effort to unionize. One quoted from a theology textbook approved by the Diocese of Scranton, saying "human beings have fundamental rights to act to their own private associations, specifically, labor unions."

The diocese says students have the right to speak their mind, but there will be discipline for walking out during school hours. The students who participated in the walkout have been told to show up on Saturday, March 8, for 2 1/2 hours of detention. They'll be given writing assignments.
