LAT: Unions seek to organize carwasheros

A Times investigation into labor abuses at Southern California carwashes found brazen violation of minimum wage laws. Many car wash employees, or carwasheros, earn less than $2 an hour and, in many cases, their employers take advantage of the fact that many of the workers are undocumented immigrants. Not helping matters is that state oversight of wage laws at the region's 1,000 carwashes is infrequent and the punishment even more so.

Stepping into the situation, a coalition of labor, community and religious groups is expected to announce a campaign to organize carwash workers, reports the Los Angeles Business Journal. A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday.
