CWA to investigate union leader who dated Governor Corzine

RENTON, N.J. - The Communications Workers of America will investigate a local union president who once dated the governor.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports that national CWA officials will investigate allegations by Jonathan Berg that CWA Local 1034 president Carla Katz misspent union money.

The claim centers upon Katz's intervention in a lawsuit filed against Gov. Jon S. Corzine by Republicans seeking access to e-mails he exchanged with Katz.

Katz intervened, claiming the e-mails should stay private.

In agreeing to investigate, the CWA found there was no merit to disciplinary charges Local 1034 officials brought against Berg in October.

Corzine and Katz dated from 2002 to 2004, before he became governor.
