The United States Department of Labor filed a lawsuit on Tuesday, March 18, seeking alleged unpaid overtime wages to employees of Union City's Manhattan View Nursing Home, which has 127 beds in its facility.

The allegations date back to July 2004, according to an investigation by the department's Wage and Hour Division.

The defendants allegedly failed to pay all overtime wages to more than 90 employees and failed to maintain accurate records of hours worked.

"On many days, employees worked before their shifts started, after their shifts ended, and through their lunch periods, but were not compensated for that time," said Joseph Petrecca, director of the Wage and Hour Division's Northern New Jersey office. He added, "We took this action to ensure that these employees receive the proper wages for all of the hours they work."

According to Petrecca, out of the listed employees, 16 are from Union City with many others residing in Jersey City.

Of the 16 locals, Department of Labor spokesperson Leni Uddyback-Fortson said many of them performed a range of duties but most were nurses at the nursing home.
