Random Acts of Kindness

Friday, April 4, 2008

On March 5, I was traveling on the Peoria Charter Bus to Bradley University. My final destination was Pekin where my son, Herbert O. Roden, was dying of brain cancer. I was so upset, never having been in Pekin before.

I called the UAW Local 974, asking for help. Rick Doty, executive vice president of the organization was waiting for me. He took me to Pekin, first to the hotel so I could get a room, then to my son who, thank God, was still alive. My son died on March 7.

I would like to thank Rick Doty for taking time from his busy schedule to pick me up at Bradley.

Joy M. Roden

Janesville, Wis.
