CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A demolition and recycling contractor in Hurricane has been ordered to pay $55,535 in overtime back wages to 35 employees.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced Tuesday that A&E Development violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by paying employees straight time for overtime hours worked between December 2005 through December 2007.

The company also failed to maintain records required by law.

A&E agreed to compensate the employees for the overtime pay owed to them after the Wage and Hour Division explained the law to company officials.
