Really happy to see this group
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 04:41 PM by CornField
I hope along the way that we also get into discussions about:

1) How to deal with the politics within the politics (a.k.a. 'Mean People Suck and We've Got To Deal With Em')
2) Low-cost/No-cost volunteer recognition ideas (how to gather volunteers and keep them)

Looking forward to learning some new stuff!

Edited to add my info:
Precinct Captain (non-elected)
Central Committee member at county, district and state level (elected)

2. I'm glad to see this forum too.
Some ideas on low cost / no cost volunteer recognition. Never pass up a chance to say thank you or good job. Be empathetic - i.e. "I know you work a full time job and still find the time to canvass, we appreciate your dedication."

Send personal thank you notes, get a calendar with their birthdays and send birthday cards, include them on your christmas card list. You can also recognize their efforts at meetings or a County events.

Help them see a bigger picture and ask them about their opinions. Many Dems that attend meetings for the first time or volunteer, want to talk. If they only attend a meeting with an agenda and roberts rules and then are given a call list with a script.... they might not feel like it was a very fulfilling experience.
