5. Harper's a fucking slime and this doesn't suprise me.......
I live in Hamilton, Ontario and Stephen Harper has been kissing Bushco's ass for years. Harper is to Canada what McCain and Clinton are to the USA, corporate slime and Obama makes them nervous.

9. You got that right
Harper has brought a new level of dirty tricks to Canadian politics, and I wouldn't put it past him and his operatives to try to meddle in the US election.

I trust the CBC story to be pretty accurate.

6. Harper's an ass
In Canada we have three main parties. One more progressive, the New Democrats, one the DLC would like to see, the Liberals, and one as rightwing as they come, the Conservatives. And the fourth Green party is also making some headway. What this means is that the the majority of Canadians who are moderate to left have their votes split up between three parties, giving the Conservatives a clean path to winning an election. It's like Ralph Nader x 3. Our current Prime Minister Harper was in opposition during the start of the Iraq invasion (thank god) and was screaming at the Liberal government to join.
Some of his 'accomplishments' include changing the law so that you can get 5 years if you are caught with one pot plant, refusing to step in to negotiate to stop a death sentence for a Canadian born inmate in a US death row cell (the first time ever a Prime Minister has not stepped in to stand up for our ban on Capital Punishment), and of course the usual pandering to corporate welfare while cutting social services.

Its kind of a hollow victory feeling up here as the US is finally moving out of the Right wing nightmare and in Canada we may have to endure a shift to the right a while longer. It would be so great to have a progressive leader in both our countries at the same time. Think of what could be accomplished. sigh...

So OF COURSE this was purposely leaked to damage Obama's campaign. I don't think Harper likes Hillary either, and would have done the same to her, but the opportunity presented itself and he took it. You can be damn sure they would have buried any damaging info on McInsane.

11. Of course he was playing
As they all are. Do you actually think Hillary, Obama or McInsane would immediately dismantle the NAFTA? Or even immediately renegotiate? I predict a long slow foot drag on that issue once in office.

The bad thing about NAFTA is that there are no labor rights, or wage standards, or health standards, or environmental standards to speak of. For that reason, plants along with jobs have been flowing south where American and Canadian companies can take advantage and pillage the workforce of Mexico, and thus draining jobs up here.

If we re-negotiated to include those standards, Americans, Canadians, and Mexican workers would be protected while at the same time business barrier elimination would be good for industries, and everybody would be happy.

With the European Union having their own economic treaty, it makes sense to have a North American one to compete, its more of the devil being in the details. But convincing the big corporations to be more responsible and fair and get it in writing is not going to be so simple, and Obama knows it. But in order to win, and push a re-negotiation, he has to appeal to the rabid anti-free trade segment. I understand and forgive him. Some things in politics must play out this way.
