Sheesh. You can't make this stuff up. Before she resigned for calling Hillary Clinton a 'monster,' Obama's senior foreign policy adviser Samantha 'Monster' Power told the BBC not to take seriously Obama's pledge to get the troops home in 16 months! A statement by Hillary Clinton follows the video clip. I wonder how Obama is going to blame this one on Hillary.

“This is the latest example of promising the American people one thing on the campaign trail and telling people in other countries another. We saw this with NAFTA as well. He’s attacked me continuously for having no hard exit date and now we learned that he doesn’t have one. In fact, he doesn’t have a plan at all, according to his top foreign-policy advisor. If he keeps telling people one thing while his campaign tells people abroad something else, I’m not sure what the American people should believe.” -- Hillary Clinton

BBC Transcript: STEPHEN SACKUR: Let me stop you just for a moment. You said that he’ll revisit it when he goes to the White House. So what the American public thinks is a commitment to get combat forces out within sixteen months, isn’t a commitment isn’t it?

POWER: You can’t make a commitment in whatever month we’re in now, in March of 2008 about what circumstances are gonna be like in Jan. 2009. . He will of course not rely upon some plan that he’s crafted as a presidential candidate or as a US senator. . .

SACKUR: Ok, so the 16 months is negotiable?

POWER: It’s the best case scenario

7. Yeah
I watched the clip.

And NO, I wansn't responding to a different issue.

Whoop-dee-fucking-doo was my response to the clip. They both say that, actually.

And she shouldn't have resigned. She is far more brilliant than any 3 clinton advisers. And what she said was true.

11. But Hillary gets flack for NOT committing to immediately withdraw
all of the troops..... turns out she is simply being realistic and not pandering as does Obama.

3. I don't get the problem
Of course it has to be evaluated when he or Hillary is in office. Only a child would not think otherwise. I expect the winner gets full briefings when they enter the whitehouse and then does the best they can with the situation as it stands.

5. Good lord.
16 months is the best scenario.
But they do not have access to military intelligence.
So they are going to hard code something on no information.
Suppose they do that and a whole heap of people die unnecessarily.

Dumb!!!

15. exactly
these are the realities that all of the pundits (and the american public) ignore. None of us really knows... this was a great moment of admitting the truth -- but sadly people aren't ready to hear it.

16. One thing I don't get about some Clinton supporters: They prefer bullshit to the truth.
I don't get it. I certainly don't see it from every Clinton supporter, but it's pretty common among the messages I read here. This lady is telling the truth- she's not attempting to deceive anyone. In fact, she's taking more pains than your average politico to point out the realities and difficulties involved in Iraq withdrawl.

If anyone wants a perfect example of the ideology I'm talking about, try to dig up Cali's post titled simply "No." It is probably the clearest outline of the attitude of one of these Clinton supporters I have ever seen.

It's not a permanent affliction- I think Cali herself has changed her support to Obama. But that message and the worldview it represents gives quite a bit of insight to everyone else.

17. Misleading op and what's more, Bush can make his disastrous occupation
far worse than it already is with his time still in office as well as openly escalating the 'wars' to MORE countries and no one knows how bad he is going to leave our foreign policy.

20. I should look so monstrous
I've always thought Hillary was a sexy broad. I've seen her detractor all over TV today, and believe me she is the monster. She's probably jealous of Hillary's good looks and brains. And her ability to win large primary states. Like Texas, Ohio, Florida, California, New York, etc. This is a non-issue to me since she "resigned".

21. Then what's Hillary's plan made of? Ponies and Sunshine?
I'm pretty sure you need to use words in order to make a plan, because there would be no means of communication otherwise. Also, every surrogate is full of nothing but platitudes.. In fact, that's their job. But since you want to take that road, how bout Wolfson calling Obama Ken Starr, or Penn claiming only Hillary's states matter, or Hillary's campaign aides spreading libel. It's a hypocriticial world, I just live in it.

23. What are you talking about?
What she said makes perfect sense, and I don't see how it's different from what Obama has been saying... I don't see what the problem is... And for you to call her "Samantha 'Monster' Power" is really ignorant. Do you know anything about her? Has anyone here actually read her book, A Problem From Hell?

25. Contingency Plans
Obama's senior foreign policy adviser Samantha 'Monster' Power told the BBC not to take seriously Obama's pledge to get the troops home in 16 months!

No she didn't. She said what she said - that it would be "ideology" to have a detailed plan this far in advance.

Hillary's people talk like Hillary.
