KBR forces its towels on U.S. troops.In a hearing today on waste, fraud, and abuse in Iraq, Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) said the defense contractor KBR, formerly of Halliburton, has been stamping its logo on towels given to U.S. troops. Dorgan said a contractor told him that he ordered plain white towels for troops, but the “superviser” said the towels must have the KBR logo on them — despite the cost to taxpayers:

He said the problem is, that will triple or quadruple the price. His superviser said, ‘doesn’t matter. This is a cost-plus contract. Taxpayers pay for that.’ So this is the towel the troops got, with KBR embroidered on it.

3. These are the same people that want tax cuts for the rich...

The same people that want the "Fair" Tax. These are the same people that want to cut welfare, grants, elderly assistance programs, disabled assistance programs, etc. They are the same people that want to eliminate public education in this country. This is the way they think. They can spend as much of the tax payers money as possible on some embroidered towels for the troops but once the troops come home wounded they can't spend tax payers money to provide them with proper care. They can waste tax payer dollars on all their wasteful things while they can't spend it on the elderly, the poor, the uninsured, the underinsured, etc. This stuff is worth the tax payers money because it's padding their fat pockets!

5. Not even USA, but KBR. These criminals must be brought to justice.

Stop them from building ANYTHING ANYWHERE, with our money until they answer these questions to our satisfaction, if they can.
CONGRESS has that power. Right? They do still control the money at least? Can't they put some sort of injuncture on these criminals? Stop their payments? Is the congress completely "gonadless" in this?

6. A good friend of mine just got back from a tour of duty in Iraq..

a little while ago, and he is an avid bushco supporter. I try to explain to him why things like this are bad.
Him "Who cares about embroidery on towels." or "We must support the President/Pentagon/Halliburton (pick one)"

I try to explain that when these cost plus contracts are wasting money in this fashion, that is taking away money from critical items like CLEAN DRINKING WATER or EFFECTIVE BODY ARMOR but he doesnt understand this concept.

Talking to him about this stuff makes my head almost explode.
