this reminds me of when Dick Cheney would go to little town hall meetings and say Iraq was involved in 9/11. When called on it during interviews, he would say no, no, there is no connection. But all those 'average Americans' went home from that political meeting quite sure that Iraq was involved in 9/11, after all, the Vice President told them himself.

And the comment from Alter that the press gives McCain a pass because of 'fatigue'. You know what, the old fogey is auditioning for the most stressful job in the world. They should be pushing him and pushing him to see if he is up to the task.

Bush and Cheney alleged a connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda in order to get the country behind a war in Iraq. Now McCain is fudging the facts.

McCain's gaffe threatens to undermine his claim to be the most experienced foreign policy expert in the race and it fuels concerns that he is too old to be president.
