1. I wonder if people do not see what we do to other countries
does come back to hit us where it hurts? Frankly I think the man is right on what he said. I guess I am in turn with that 'Blowback' book by Johnson I think. :hide: Should I hide?

13. Many clergy and citizens in this country say the same things.
He's not a hero for saying it. He has free speech. As I stated..it's not what he said but that he is strong part of the campaign period.

3. Reporters in the church is why Rev. Wright should not have
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 07:19 AM by mac2
been in the Obama campaign in the first place. Rev. Wright was held up as an important part of Obama's religious life. Since it was part of the discussion about Obama they should not have expected less.

Personally, I have no problem with Rev. Wright's opinions since we have free speech in this country. They do not belong as part of the public campaign.

I do question Rev. Wright's retirement home (money from tax exempt church) should be questioned by the media. Such an expensive home from his church part of Faith Based funding wealth or what? The IRS should also look into it.

Rev. Wrights church members and new leader to go public and protest the media coverage, harassment, etc. of him was also tasteless. They have drawn themselves into the public eye. There was no apology for their leader being an important part of a political campaign (violation of separation). Nor the threat of the loss of tax exempt status because of it.

10. Oh they do?
Not until the Faith Based Charity bag of cash did any clergy have million plus homes and property. You shouldn't be rich on the church regardless of your race or country.

5. You wanna see a nice tax-exempt house?
Take a peek at Benny Hinn's 6000 sq. ft., TAX-EXEMPT California mansion, appraised at $10 MILLION.

Pretty nice place, for a complete and utter FRAUD.

Disgusting double standard.

11. Terrible regardless of who he is.
The IRS is not doing their job. Hey...isn't that why they wanted smaller government? Drown it in a bath tub so it can't function?

7. This group should be commended for getting together in support of the church and rev. Wright
Some of the biggest problems in this world have to do with religion and race intolerance. Why do you think all these countries have been fighting for centuries? Lets not feed into this. We're supposed to be "more progressive" in our thinking here in the US but what I have seen in my life time is a regression in thinking skills. I've never been a big church attender but I believe we should let people believe (I do have a problem with people trying to force their beliefs on someone else). Most of us, as we age, listen to and assimilate knowledge from those we are around and then pick and choose what we want to be part of our own belief system. I grew up in a typical dysfunctional CA family and did I go in the same direction...no because I learned from all those experiences and made my life better because of them. I believe that Barack Obama probably learned from his experiences by being in his church and seeing the challenges facing the people he chose to serve. Did he go out after listening to rev. Wright and start a riot? No he decided he could help make our world a better place!

12. Bull to blame radical hatred for a clergy who profits off
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 06:32 AM by mac2
his members and the IRS tax exempt status. Race has nothing to do with it. In my mind anyway.

I'm not so excited about those other white clergy such as Pat Robertson, etc.living so big on their tax exemption either. It is outrageous that they call themselves religious leaders. They are more like a profit center.

The world is certainly a better place for Rev. Wright. Not for the poor and needy who go to bed without food and shelter.

Are these posts from Obama headquarters or Rev. "of so rich" Wright's enablers?

14. Wow! So preachers are not allowed to make money?
I know the ones in my town don't but it seems like many churchs have gotten so big that are run like a business. If a preacher is good and attracks lots of people to his church then why not? I mainly was concerned about someone taking a 30 second sound bite and condeming someone for life and then trying to condemn someone else for life because he may of listened to similar sound bites. You might want to listen to the video on DU today of Father Pfleger being interviewed by Fox news (the unedited version). I personally haven't been that excited about church sermons but I might of stayed awake if I had someone like rev. Wright or this Father Pfleger talking about current issue's good, bad and especially challenging the status quo. If reverand Wright helped Obama to become the person he is in anyway he is worth his weight in gold. Maybe there is more out there that he "woke up" too!
