2. well, watching this video, i do not think heston is a horrible man
Edited on Sun Apr-06-08 02:29 PM by seabeyond
as a matter of fact there was a bit of empathy going on with the man. i dont think he misspoke and when he didnt have an answer he said he didnt know, yet moore continued drilling for an answer when heston did not have it. i waited for heston to become defensive with moores handling and all in all i think heston handled himself well

because i do not agree with a persons position on something or particular behavior i do not put that person in all evil. that is ridiculous and for me just simply stupid. some of the comments about heston are beyond absurd.

3. It wasn't posted to ridicule Heston. Yesterday some DUers
mentioned his role in Moore's doc., so when I saw it I posted it. FWIW, I agree. He didn't seem unreasonable, though having loaded guns all over the place sounds at best unhealthy!

5. I agree with you...
There has to be room for disagreement in our country. It is
disappointing the CH is as pro-gun as he is, but he is not personally responsible for the tragic murder of the 6-year-old. His allusion to race hints at the partly underground current of racism, but he has not necessarily thought it through, regarding answering MM's question.

It is always encouraging when there is calm conversation and sharing of ideas and possibilities;
the knee-jerk intolerance and hatred are what is a more serious danger than some of the differences of opinion that there are.

8. Old Fashioned?
When I first saw this a few weeks back, I didn't necessarily feel "bad" for Mr. Heston because Moore had allegedly ambushed him (which I don't believe for a minute). I felt "bad" for him because here's a guy who clearly missed out on the last 40 years of social change. It's like after the Civil Rights movement, he just sort of gave up and said "Okay, the blacks have rights now, everything is just A-Ok!"

I guess the bigger point is - at what point can we excuse older americans for not having a clue that the world has changed? Is it fair of us to hold a 80 year old man to the same level of cultural enlightenment as someone who's grown up with a high-speed internet connection? I don't really have the answers, it's just something I think about.
