2. Excellent! And another thing to consider for those "wait until they leave office" impeachment fans

If we don't start impeachment hearings NOW, as a way of confronting misdeeds of power while the power is still being exercised the following could happen:

1) This president and vice president, fearing what could happen if they are out of office with a Democratic President and congress in charge, might play the game that Paul Craig Roberts fears, which is create an event that would be an excuse for martial law and/or cancelling the election. Something like starting a war with Iran, some big terrorist event like 9/11, or perhaps even the assassination of the Democratic nominee after the Democratic Convention.

2) if they DO go after him after he is out of office and even send them both to prison, that might help for THIS president, but that will send the message to future presidents to employ option 1 (if what is left over after option 1 is exercised ever allows our constitution to be followed later or not) or to employ the Ford/Nixon option of "arranging" pardons for everyone, which continues to allow the culprits of such criminal activiites to still be around later for future damage again.

3) Do nothing after he's left office even after giving the indications you will do something does exactly what you are concerned with, which is encouraging lawbreaking by future presidents that don't see it being penalized this time.

The point is, unless it is done NOW, while these two are IN office, it will only create problems in the future, as they need to know that they will be held accountable at the height of their power, so that they have a disincentive to do impeachable actions to start with, and also if they do commit impeachable offenses, and they don't look to extend their power to prevent themselves from being prosecuted later in the future.
