April 14th, 2008 Rachel Maddow: Puts Bitter-Gate in Perspective
Rachel just outted Joe Scarboro. He totally knows he is manipulating.
This is why she is a Dr. Pat Buchanan and Joe S will soon have nothing to talk about.

3. That last part...
...where Scarborough went over how any why the Repubs took Congress in 94 and beat Kerry and Gore because the blue collar voters neglected their economic interest in favor of gut connection was spot on. Love him or hate him, he was right on that point.

8. Spot on wrong, he was, in my opinion. Obama connects on a gut level with all kinds of people.
That's why he's been winning, and keeps on winning. Rachel's pov is exactly right.

21. Exactly!
Why should we allow a stinking Republican define Obama for us? I'm sick to death of this anti Obama media. If they were even half as critical of McCain.

28. but the media has bent over backwards for obama.
Yeah, right. wtf. The media taks what, a year, to pick up on the bosnia LIE, but every word obama says gets taken out of context and spun until people actually think he said it how they are trying to spin it. I personally find it ridiculous. And thank god for rachel maddow who doesn't let this stuff stand. then david gregory bs about how maddow is talking about the context and that's why he's letting her go on. wtf. the media creates these issues. people don't notice them or care about them til the media keeps going on and on and twisting it til it sticks. then they go on about how outraged people are.

i get a headache from this. this is the reason why we end up with idiots like bush. gee... wonder why every four years we end up with someone exactly like the last guy. hmmm.... could it be this kind of baloney? just makes me sick.

36. You're right. The msm should be outlawed from any commentary whatsoever
about candidates, only allowed to let the candidates speak for themselves directly, let the people listen and make up their own minds. All the media does, with rare exceptions, is confuse the hell out of people.

19. That's what I'm thinking.....
which was pretty ironic, because Joe Scarborough was saying exactly what Obama had said. But I guess it's ok for Joe, cause no one's gonna say shit about that. Pundits try to influence public opinion and say what in the fuck they want, but a politician who may be leading this country can't say shit. How about that?

25. They do it all of the time here.
They bitch and moan about the economy, but they'll vote a straight "right to life" ticket (i.e.-Republican) and watch their economic status decline.

The greatest example of this is when I see farmers bitching about "welfare queens" and other people receiving government support while they're signing up for farm program benefits at the FSA office (true story--seen it happen several times).

It's discouraging when a presidential candidate is actually talking in terms about working class Americans' frustrations and why they're frustrated, only to be castigated by the media stooges.

And *that* is why Scarborough is to be loathed. He wholly agrees with what Obama said, yet he is attacking him in order to score political points.

universal health care...gays in the military....gun control....

So let's see....at the end Scarborough states Repugs win and Dems lose because lower middle class rural people's bigotry trumps their concern for their own well being.(I thought they were supposed to support themselves without Government help! Why would they be disappointed that the government didn't help them?) IOW...Repug voters are knuckle dragging hate filled idiots.
Hey....he DID tell the truth!

5. Bittergate: What's the matter with Pennsylvania?
A little more context from:

AzBlueMeanie

The media generated controversy over Barack Obama's small town "bitter" comment began with a posting by Mahill Fowler, a blogger on the Huffington Post, and was quickly picked up by the corporate approved candidates for president, Clinton and McCain, and the echo chamber of the corporate right-wing noise machine in the mainstream media.

7. The interesting thing here is
I've canvassed the entire western half of PA on behalf of labor and there are a lot of people who are on the ball with a lot of our economic issues but i'd say half of them also went on about the "damn illegals" taking our jobs. The Irony of course is that western PA doesn't have an illegal immigrant problem!

10. I think Obama understands people, human nature, very well, exceptionally well
and through a compassionate, thoughtful lens. His analysis is good even when he doesn't know a culture personally because he has a grasp of what is universal & simple in people; and that's what he addresses.

It's the common ground thing. This is why he's doing so well.

29. I really don't get why this is still a story.
I mean, came out friday afternoon. Where is this kind of media for Clinton and the columbia thing? crickets. i mean, there are so many issues these idiots should be discussing. I'd say that if this is all they have to try to screw him over with, then they are in trouble. But for some reason, they are trying to turn this into some big thing. it makes me want to cry, frankly. I can only hope that voters are smarter than this.

24. Did you notice how Scarborough got all defensive on Maddow's comments on the media?
The MSM news media get so uppity and defensive when anyone calls them out on their biases and half-ass reporting on the real issues, giving attention instead to what Lindsay Lohan or Nicole Ritchie or Paris Hilton are doing.

30. Gut? Like Bush listens to his gut? Like that? We've had about enough of
that b.s.

Didn't Bush actually say that once?

And besides...

The last time people used gut instinct to vote, they picked the guy they would most like to toss back a beer with.
Last time it was Bush.
So... this time it's Hillary?
That means Hillary = Bush?

I do think the American people have, well 73% of them, decided that kind of instinct is what got us into BIG trouble.
The 23% that Hillary is going after with this nonsense won't be voting for her no matter how many drinks and ducks she bags.

And HEY... have you seen the bags under her eyes?!? Man! I think she's been knocking off more drinks than the camera crew has captured on tape.

31. Scarborough is nothing more than a "tool" for the Republican agenda
he completely understood Rachael's comments and no doubt recognized it as the truth, unless he's completely brain dead. His job is to beat down the Dem front runner, and with it the spirit of the Democratic voters so that they become discouraged enough to stay home on election day. He's a con and a shill, obviously so, and I find it hard to believe that the m$m can still pawn him off as a legitimate commentator.

34. she nailed Joe. He admitted Obama was right
Obama should use this clip. Everyone knows he's right, its that the GOP and Hillary are using his inartful expression.

What Maddow should have said is McCain's 100 years thing. The media didn't spend a week NON FUCKING STOP talking about how that was going to destroy his chances of winning in November. How it sunk him. But it plays to the GOP stereotype as war mongers.

Dang. Hopefully someone soon will bring that up.

Maddow is my hero.

40. Rachel Maddow is masterful with the snippets of time allowed
She's brilliant at packing cogent arguments into the teeny dabs of time accorded to progressive commentators on the talking head shows. She is masterful-- she knows how to use every one of those six seconds they give the five guests they have on for a five minute discussion of a topic. And when they click back to her she's ready again! Excellent! And very refreshing.

Basically showing that he aligns himself so closely with Repugs that he considers it "WE". I can remember when something like that would be a scandal for someone supposedly reporting and discussing news in an unbiased manner.
