I've been mailing this TPM clip of Obama on Charlie Rose to everyone I talk to about this. As Cenk so astutely points out, Obama is saying the American people are smart - they turn to social institions that they can rely on when their government fails them. SO THE ANSWER IS TO STOP FAILING THEM.

Thank you Cenk for pointing this out so clearly. I also feel his despair at the lack of real journalism.

Well, ok, so Mr. T probably never said that, but I agree with him anyway. What Obama supporter watches this clip and decides "nah, not rec worthy"? I don't get it.

2. This clip should be used in a tv ad to show who Barack is.

It should remind everyone that he respects people of faith and those who have bonding times over hunting.

It has been wrong for his words to have been twisted into a meaning that is opposite of the truth.
This clip is from 2004 and is exactly how he still feels. It speaks to his character which is respectful and understanding to the people he really knows.

3. As I watched this...

...I found myself mentally picturing how geedubyabush would have come off attempting to explain this issue to Charlie Rose. Of course that would never happen in that he is incapable of true compassion -and don't even think about him being able to link declarative sentences together in an understandable manner. Unless it can be boiled down into 8-12 word bursts he couldn't deliver it, let alone appreciate what he's just said.

6. Hillary is using the Republican technique of turning a person's

strength against them. And she has savaged Obama with it. He is now branded as elitist. All his attempts to carry out his original intent of reaching out to ordinary gun-carrying, church-going Americans will be seen as hypocritical. Hillary deserves to be shunned by all Democrats for this. In my 65 years, I have never seen a Democrat hit so low at another Democrat. Hillary has shown that she is for Hillary first and for the American people and Democrats last. Hillary is low, low, low.

I am not now and never have been an Obama supporter although, since he is the only person standing besides Hillary, I guess I like him best nice. I was/am an Edwards supporter. We really missed it by not nominating Edwards. He handled this sort of sideswipe really well.

10. Cenk is an idiot. He's making the same mistake, albeit unintentionally in his case, that pundits ..

... are making, in my opinion. "cling to" does not mean "turn to", and the difference matters.

"cling to" implies a pre-existing relationship to which the citizen more ardently grabs a hold; "turn to" implies a new-found belief or interest. Cenk is using opposition framing in using the "turn to" phrasing.
