From the You Tube poster.

"Say what you want about Bob Schieffer, in my opinion he is one of the last honest Washington journalists we have left. They should have left the man as anchor on the CBS News, he's far and away superior to Katie Couric.

And, this may be as close to a Walter Cronkite moment that we are going to get in this campaign.

Bob nails the ridiculous question by George and Charlie at the Philly debate."

1. Yeah I saw that and thought he nailed it.
I also posted the link on the Huff Po earlier.

It's about time.

The triviality of this issue is far beyond idiotic.

3. Perfect Bob, thanks
It would be interesting to know where those pins were made. Made in the U.S.A. would be nice but I suspect China is stamped on most.

I like the saying, Beware of the man who carries his bible in front of him. This applied to badges telling people you are really are an American and love your country.

Which reminds me of a remark from Michelle Obama on their return trip to Africa that I read in Obama's book Audacity/Hope, (pg.54) "Michelle admitted she was looking forward to getting home. "I just never realized how American I was," she said. She hadn't realized just how free she was--or how much she cherished that freedom." He is describing the importance of our freedoms we sometimes take for granted. Our actions should speak louder than words and symbols.

23. Welcome to DU! I certainly don't think that whether or not I wear a cheap-ass Made-in-China flag pin
is any measure of how patriotic I am.

It just really distressed me, on a very basic level, that that poor gullible woman whom ABC dug up for that video insert in the last debate thinks she simply cannot vote for a presidential candidate who does not wear a flag pin. MY GOD. THIS is what we've come to? And mind you, what I remember reading about this hapless woman was that she had recently lost her job, which means bye-bye health care, bye-bye any sort of company pension (assuming there even was one), bye-bye regular rent/mortgage payments, bye-bye being able to fill her gas tank and pay for her meds and buy more than just cheap ramen or macaroni and cheese to eat, and cover the power-and-water bills every month - with all these problems, she's worried about a fucking FLAG PIN????????? Maybe that's one of the "they cling to guns or they cling to their churches" type of issues that lead so many of us to bitterness - that Barack Obama was talking about.

LORD but I felt sorry for that woman. With all those reversals and all that upheaval and uncertainty and trepidation in her life, she's going to measure the worth of a presidential candidate by whether he or she wears a fucking FLAG PIN.

THAT, dear DUers, spells it out right there. THAT'S the embodiment of what has gone SO wrong in this country. When I see and hear people like her, I must say I lose a little more faith in America. THAT is what we've come to.

DEAR GOD. :scared:

5. Excellent! I would hope Lou Dobbs would have heard Mr. Schieffer & learn something from him!!!!!!!
Lou Dobbs is becoming one of the most obnoxious of all the anchors on the TV today! He is consistently turning things Obama says and does into complete spin! I think CNN ought to ship him off to Fox News! He seems to be one of them!!!!!!

14. Thank you. The sad thing about this arguement is that the flag pin
in the lapel is a rw symbol. None of us wore them when I was a kid and we had just gotten done fighting WWII.

18. I watched CBS News every night with Bob Schieffer. Then Katie took over; "some people say . . ."
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 08:44 PM by faygokid
Bob Schieffer is a class act. Katie gave unedited air time her FIRST WEEK to let Rush Limbaugh spew, then did the horrendous interview on 60 Minutes with John and Elizabeth Edwards.

That was it; haven't watched CBS Evening News since. I think Schieffer did a great job. Does a great job.

19. scheiffer waited too long....
while most here thank him for doing his job properly, scheiffer actively was part of the establishment of fascism in the Land of the Free. If common sense finally being allowed to stand up beside nonsense is something to cheer, then forget about it.... bang bang, he shot me down, bang bang, i hit the ground, bang bang, my baby shot me down....nice song

27. Thanks Bob. He certainly did nail that.
My father, who has been dead since 1991, wore a flag pin in his lapel. He started wearing it in
the 1980's when Raygun was president. I asked him once why now and he answered, "I'm sick and tired of Reagan using the Democrats as a punching bag. He was nothing but a grade B actor and a informer for HUAC. He's garbage." BTW, Daddy not only wore the flag pin on his lapel, he always wore the Democratic donkey pin as well. Both of the pins were buried with my father.

30. In Denmark
..our token far right wing party (actually I would prefer them to be graded on a good and evil scale) has, as such ALWAYS do, made sure to use the flag in everything they do.

One of my favourite bands then went on tour with a huge ass flag as background, because, as they said, "They have taken our flag hostage. We are taking it back!"

Thats how its done.

31. We are a catty nation...
You can tell we've been watching too many makeover shows when our critique of political candidates is about haircuts, jewelry, cleavage, and how old someone looks. Maybe we should get them all a makeover before voting. Or maybe we should just grow up.
