1. These people get PAID to spout this tripe?
It's a "savings" of about $30...not $100...and that's only if the oil companies don't raise pump prices.

We should have an official "stupid stick" to beat people with.

2. They're trying to make it sound like it's $30 a month...
...they have no shame and Russert dropped the ball letting him get away with that.

3. It's roughly $3 per week....
I don't care who you are, the possibility of saving $3 per week not making you jump for joy does NOT make you an elitist.

5. "I feel your pain!" GAG!
Edited on Mon May-05-08 05:51 PM by Krashkopf
The fact that 150 economists signed a letter saying that it was a "bad idea" does not matter!

This "gas tax holiday from reality" is political PANDERING at its very worst. How stupid do they think we are?

And, is there NO LEVEL to which HRC, and her minions, will not stoop? They have to reach up just to touch bottom, now!

7. I'm starting to realize why this wizard lost every election he handled as chair of the DNC
And now he's worked the same magic with Mrs. Clinton's presidential campaign.

Where do we begin?

First of all, he comes up with a Republican-like phrase ("temporay relief") to describe something that either won't do much or will do a lot more harm than good (this reminds of the the "death tax" hype). It isn't the federal gasoline tax that's hurting consumers. It's the fact that gasoline prices have risen from $2 to $4 a gallon in about 2 years. Eighteen cents isn't very much of that, certainly not a great part of the $150 about which McAuliffe's driver complained. It's not going to provide the relief American consumers need. In the short term, I really don't know what will.

Most of the pain comes from a price increases tied to market forces. Relief, consequently, has got to be a plan to bring prices down by increasing the supply of energy. That doesn't necessarily mean petroleum. In fact, this is a good time to talk about phasing out petroleum -- that dirty, nasty stuff -- as an energy source. The long term solution is to develop alternative fuel sources. The time to start was thirty years ago when President Carter urged it.

Let's hope it's not too late to start. America, let's rool up our sleeves.

If I may address Mr. McAuliffe and say something I've always wanted to say to him: Sit down and shut up!

8. He's an idiot
Economist don't matter. It's a shame this tax holiday is even allowed to be used like this. It's also too bad some of IN and NC are falling for it. Nationwide in the 50's think it's a bad idea. And in the 40's think it's a good idea. Too many think it's a good idea. Doesn't matter if we lose 300,000 jobs over it give me my half a tank NOW! :sarcasm:

9. Yeah, yeah, this guy's an idiot, but there's something else about this clip that is important

Only Democrats are ever asked to support their assertions with some sort of factual data or expert analysis. Republicans' claims are taken at face-value as absolute gospel truth.

Of course the gas tax holiday is a terrible idea.

10. More bad ideas from HRC
WTF unless she is willing to freeze the price of gas a tax holiday is nothing but a giveaway to the oil companies. The price is not controlled by the government and if you listen to enough analysts its the speculation, no its supply and demand, no its refinery capacity, no its the falling us dollar, no its the weather. Every day brings another reason why the gas prices are going up. The feed us any of the above reasons or make up a new one to totally wipe out the price decrease from a tax holiday.

This is even worse than a 90-day freeze on foreclosures. Gee thanks now I can wait 90 more days before they kick me out of my house. Again unless the government is willing to go in and freeze payments and force banks to refinance these loans in a fixed low interest rate loan all she is offering is another "read my lips" promise.

What next? Tax cuts? Yeah she needs to promise tax cuts and say that the majority of the benefit will go to those on the lower end of the income scale and then after she gets elected screw the poor and working class and give the tax cuts to her DLC pals.

She gets more and more like Bush everyday! Now she doesn't believe in experts called economists, or democracy like having other people's name on a ballot before she can declare victory or something as radical as actually campaigning before an election can be called fair. She even thinks none of the delegates are required to vote for the candidate that won their district or caucus no everyone should just say screw who I'm supposed to vote for and vote for HRC.

The next thing she will be giving a cabinet position to heck-of-a-job Mark Penn for his clear competence in running her campaign into the gutter.

12. Money the government loses
do to loss of gas tax revenue equals less money put into road programs which equals less people fixing roads. Just what we need, less working people and even worse infrastructure.
