The title says it all! A semi-serious Jon Stewart gives his take on each of the presidential candidates. Listen and smile!

2. Really McCain is outside party lines
Everyone on his staff is a lobyist, he continually panders to the most partisan group in politics (the Christian conservatives). John Stewart has turned into a media tool. I haven't watched it yet although I found it interesting that he had McSame on the day after Obama clinced the nomination, c'mon he's getting every bit as sad as Crossfire.

5. Your take is laughable
Stewart's show is on THE COMEDY NETWORK. What part of that don't you understand? Comparing his show to Crossfire shows a gross lack of understanding on your part. Unlike actual news networks, he's not there to spin for his bosses, nor is he there to give the most thoughtful take on the candidates. He's there to make us laugh at the absurdity that is politics, and his show does a damn fine job of it.

When he's being interviewed outside of his show, however, then it's actual news. His number one purpose is then not to make people laugh. He can be legitimate and thoughtful.

8. You have not a clue

I watch the show every night, even though the show is on the absudity of politics he editorializes all the time. Colbert on the other hand is a different animal he's playing a role. When John Stewart tells me that John McCain is a politician that's outside the lines he certainly is spinning for his bosses. How else could you take that comment? John McCain is running for George Bush's 3rd term it's hardly thoughtful to say he's a different kind of politician. Oh and another thing you don't find it a bit suspect that "The Daily Show" had McCain on the night after Obamas big win? Really if you don't think these things are done on purpose you really don't understand politics.

9. I think it's something else.
McCain *used* to be what Stewart still considers him to be. Lately, he's been edging towards same-old Repub style with hopes of roping in the conservatives, who are rightly wary of him.

13. I think you hit the nail on the head.
McCain and Stewart have had some great interviews in the past, and I think Stewart has come to admire McCain for not being just another right-wing, tow-the-line blowhard like, say, Bill Kristol.

But that was McCain the Senator. McCain the Presidential Candidate is plenty happy to tow the line. Wingnuts don't like his immigration policy? Bing! He changes it. Wingnuts don't like his anti-torture stance? Bing! What anti-torture stance?

And McCain is the very definition of a warmonger. You can forget about peace if he's elected. Get ready for a few thousand more dead soldiers, and "more wars". He is a believer in the Bush Doctrine. That's towing the party line, too.

Stewart ought to be a little more honest with himself and us about McCain, and quit painting him as a moderate just because they exchanged a few jokes on the show.

P.S. Welcome to DU!

10. Really?
You honestly believe him to be a McCain supporter or apologist? That's an insane take. If you look at the political guests he's had on, it's been about 60/40, or even 55/45. He doesn't choose sides when it comes to his guests. He brings them all on... that's the point. He doesn't have to worry that he's going to give some fantastic platform to repub because Stewart is always clever enough to roast him if he says something ridiculous. However, if the repub plays along, has a good sense of humor about him, doesn't sound too absurd, he'll give him kudos, and frankly, they would be deserved.

If your main source of news comes from the Comedy Network then you are in deep, deep trouble. The Daily Show works simply because its audience is sophisticated enough to have done their political research and then gotten the jokes. This is why so many people wouldn't even get the humor to begin with... they're ignorant. Chances are, if you understand his brand of political humor then it means you read actual political commentary, you have dozens of daily sources, you do your due diligence. If you're a "Well he's not wearing a flagpin" kind of chap then you don't get it, you never will, and the show wasn't meant for you.

The Comedy Network? I figured it was worth mentioning a second time. I hope you get it.
