1. So lovely. The picture of the two AA women with such looks of admiration, hope
gave me, as a white woman, goose bumps. My thought is this has been waaay overdue. Obama44, oh yeah, I said what I had to say....

she wouldv'e been ok, but it is not to be. This cult like devotion scares me however. Bad news if you are anti nuke

11. My friend whose been in the anti-nuclear arms movement for 30 years likes Obama a lot...
Will cut 10's of billions of dollars in investments in unproven missile defense systems, will not weaponize space... set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons - will not develop new nuclear weapons, will seek a global ban on production of fissile material and will negotiate with Russia to take ICBM's off hair-trigger alert and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

In 52 seconds why Obama MUST become the next president
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnTaWTfwsFU

I am with you on disliking cult-like devotion. I support Obama and teach at a Big 10 University and found myself several times over the past few months pushing students who confessed their like for Obama to do more research on both candidates. I've also encountering a number of students who know the issues in more depth than their parents likely do - so I don't mean to slander youth, just to express my concern about anyone who doesn't take the time to read the "boring policy positions".

I happen to quite like Obama's position on nuclear weapons and my friend David, who has been working in anti-nuke groups for 30 years, says Obama's position is better than Clinton's on this issue.

19. but not on the question of Nuclear power
he is real cuddly with that bunch , and his answer in one of the 'big three" debates was by far the least accpetable to me compared with Edwards or Clinton . The answer has since been "refined" as he has a tendancy to do. On Nuclear arms he may just be the best , but energy might just be as great a danger/target.
Thanks for the run down

22. mitchtv - I think you are exactly right on Obama being wrong about nuclear power.
This is a situation in which I really want Obama to be elected and I know that we citizens will have to be very well organized, very loud, and very forceful to make sure that Congress blocks a President Obama on this issue. We can get the power we need from wind, sun, and tides --- no nuclear power and no "clean coal" and an end to natural gas as quickly as we can manage it.

If you haven't seen Amory Lovins talk about the "Oil End Game" he gave a brief talk at TED and it is great. Just a few years before whale oil stopped being THE key source of energy for heating and lighting the whale oil supply companies were on top of the world -- they didn't know what hit them when suddenly their market disappeared.

23. Frankly, he's twisted his opinion enough
that I simply do not trust him, as he has contorted his position on social security. In his zeal to work with both sides, I'm afraid he will give away the store. I've had the age raised on me during Reagan, I'd hate to see it happen to another generation. It's a nasty feeling to know that someone is counting on a certain percentage of you to die off in those added years! A pledge to not privatize is not enough.

24. I think, ultimately, we have to trust us. I prefer Obama over the others
and one reason I prefer him is that I think he will be more responsive to public pressure - us. Whether he is entirely aware of what he is doing or not, having gotten 1.5 million people to donate to his campaign and having gotten about 1.0 million people to volunteer on behalf of the campaign - those people are likely to feel a sense of ownership and once feeling a surge of power from having an impact as a citizen we'll just have to keep them going. The vast majority of Americans want Social Security left as is -- so that's what we have to do.

But I'd hate to be around if and when he disappoints, and believe me,with all the hopes and dreams people have poured into this candidacy, chances are... well you know.

13. K & R . . . And an Affirmative Prayer
Like all of us, Barack Obama is a manifestation of the Divine. We are all ONE.

I thank GOD for Barack Obama, his inspirational candidacy, and, for the positive CHANGE that he has already brought to the American political dialog.

I let this prayer of thanks go out into the Universe to multiply, and come back in the form of a hope-filled, positive, productive, Barack Obama presidency.

And, so it is!
