From the You Tube poster.

Howard Dean addressed the Monroe County Democratic Committee at its designating convention May 15, 2008.

In this clip he blasts John McCain. At the time of this address, the 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate as not yet been decided but this speech gives a preview of the attention Mr McCain will get once the Democrats focus their attention on him and not each other

He also was in NY to campaign with Eric Massa. I heard he went canvassing door to door as well. He campaigned for someone else, but I can't think of the name.

7. I was there..
Well, I wasn't at the MCDC gathering, but I was there the same evening when he spoke to a group of contributors (maybe 150) for Eric Massa, who is running for the second time to unseat Randy 'Not-so-Kuhl" in the 29th Congressional District in NY.
When he spoke it felt personal, to each of us. Having just watched the video above, I heard some of the same points and 'lines' he used in our meeting, of course. But they were delivered in a different way.

I was just so taken with Gov. Dean, confirming my impressions in the past gathered only from the media. In addition to being obviously very intelligent, creative..an 'artist' of sorts.. he seems like a really good, healthy human being.. The weight on his shoulders must be extraordinary, but he carried it gently. There was a genuine humility, grace and humor about him.
I think he would have made a stunning president if the media hadn't gotten so hung up on the so-called 'screech.'

He hadn't slept for 2 days, just flew in from California, but he took the time for each and every person who wished to speak with him, even with my wife and I for a minute. He looked us right in the eye, did not look through us and truly listened - just one human being to another. My wife is Chinese, has been in the US about 1 year and this was her first chance to meet an 'American politician." Her English is not great yet. But he was patient with her and there was never the feeling he wanted to move on, even as other 'more important' people watched and listened.

His honesty, perception, integrity, humility, and quiet strength (well not always so quiet, eh!) were quite amazing-- almost.. invisible.. Just another person doing what he does...and doing it so well..
He left in the back seat of an ordinary non-descript Chevy SUV. It seemed so fitting.

8. An amazing description of a meeting with a man many think is extraordinary.
Thanks for sharing that, and welcome to DU.

He has done so much for the party.

He must have flown from CA after being on the Tonight show the night before. Here's the video

4. And this is in rochester!!
wow. There was a reason Bush went out to rochester when he came here before. Rochester is more friendly to the republicans. I wish I would have known... I would have loved to get to be there for that. LOVE IT! and i love that Howard Dean sticks to his message and doesn't get sucked in to the politics. Or parsing.

you know how electrifying his speeches are. He's settled into his position with a great deal of wisdom and class. We need him desperately in our party.:toast:

13. I think the OP is the first time I've heard Dr. Howard...
...speak to a crowd in a long, long time. Know what I mean?
Since the MSM decided to kill him with the scream I think.

We wouldn't be where we are without this man and
his 50-state strategy. I can't wait for the day he
actually gets credit for that.

Obama is giving Republicans southern heartburn
by John Aravosis

NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/16/us/politics/16south.html?_r=4&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

But in Southern states with large black populations, like Alabama, Mississippi and Virginia, an energized black electorate could create a countervailing force, particularly if conservative white voters choose not to flock to Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee. Merle Black, a political scientist at Emory University in Atlanta, predicts “the largest black turnout in the history of the United States” this fall if Mr. Obama is the nominee.

To hold these states, Republicans may have to work harder than ever. Already, turnout in Democratic primaries this year has substantially exceeded Republican turnout in states like Arkansas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Some analysts suggest that North Carolina and Virginia may even be within reach for the Democratic nominee, and they point to the surprising result in a Congressional special election in Mississippi this week as an indicator of things to come.

16. I think there is a Fifth Column against Howard Dean, and by extension, the Democratic Party
And you know exactly who I'm talking about. Howard Dean is the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party since the 1960s, or even earlier, and I DO NOT TRUST ANYONE who wants to get rid of him.
