McGovern switches to Obama

Carrie Budoff Brown reports from Sioux Falls, SD, that Barack Obama collected the endorsement of former Senator George McGovern, a Democratic Party elder but also a symbol of liberal defeat who came out for Obama last week.

McGovern, the 1972 Democratic presidential candidate and former South Dakota senator, made a memorable endorsement last October of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, telling an Iowa crowd: “We have an old rule of courtesy in the United States: Ladies first.”

Not anymore. He made his switch to the Obama campaign official Friday, introducing the Illinois senator at a rally here.

“I have three daughters and one son, and 10 grandchildren,” McGovern said. “After I endorsed Senator Clinton, all 14 of them enlisted in the Obama campaign. That is some measure of the influence I had at home.”

2. First presidential vote I cast, and maybe still the best.

George McGovern is a class act. And he was right, and has continued to be right, about U.S. foreign and domestic policy.

He's especially right now. For the Hillary supporters to buy into the Nixon era attacks on McGovern now that he has switched candidates is just another sign of desperation.

3. A great leader in our chorus of reason and hope. South Dakota listens when George speaks!!
I hope wingnut America remembers that they picked a racist felon
over this great American, and cringes at their past ignorance.
