Between Myamnar and China what a horrible week

The quake hit as thousands of Chinese fled their homes on Saturday amid fears a lake could burst its banks, hampering rescue efforts after Monday's 7.9 earthquake killed about 29,000 people.

2. Although I feel deeply for Tibet, the worst thing we as a country

could do now would be to boycott the Olympics. Who knows, maybe even China could have a change of heart after the devastion they have suffered under this earthquake.

A country's leaders don't give a damn about the suffering of the people. It's all about greed and power. :(

4. Spenbax, I know how you feel. But China's government will not change.

  It doesn't matter if we boycott the Olympics or not. I'm for a boycott but I'm under no delusion that it will change anything.

  The Chinese government doesn't have a heart. Dig into what the Chinese government does to it's people and I think you'll find it difficult to find contradiction to even my broad-brush statement. If you find it difficult to believe what you read, brush up on your Chinese history.

  Real picture for you: There are other people in this picture but I'm just going to describe 3. There's a long trench and one Chinese soldier is pointing a rifle at the head of a 10-12 year-old Tibetan girl with a beautiful multi-colored coat. The other soldier has pushed her down to a kneeling position and has her arms pulled behind her. Because he has to be close enough to hold her hands behind her back he's got his head turned twoard the camera, looking away from her, wincing because he's afriad that her brains and blood might spray on to his uniform.

  You can see the girl's face in profile. She has the dazed look of a child about to be executed.

  Like I said, read up on China if you think anything is going to make them have some Western-style attack of conscience. I'm sorry in advance for the things you'll see and read that you can't unsee, if only in your mind's eye.

5. I'll take your word for this. Guess I was hoping the Chinese people

start a revolution against their government like the one I wish the American people would start against it's government, but in both cases we'll probably never see it happen. I remember that young man that stood in front of that tank and defied his government, but I can only guess at what evenually happened to him.

Especially heartbreaking as many of these parents have only one child... my heart just cannot absorb the loss.
