1. Even if that turns out to be true, it is too late for Spitzer's life and career...

and any good he might have accomplised as Gov of NY.

2. But it's not too late for the rest of us...
your cell phone and email records can now be seized based on the most flimsy reasons. Electronic media has become the leading tool for invading the privacy of Americans.

4. Actually - There probably is no such thing as "LEGAL" use of the Patriot Act.

3. Oh, well, guess there's nothing we can do? ?
How about supporting people who will roll back the PATRIOT act and put us back under FISA, like we should be? Or an even more open and fair process than FISA, which is too secretive and manipulatable?

5. And the feds wanted us to know this so that we would all be afraid. They didn't try to hide it.

That is what is so obscene about the whole thing. They never even bothered to make up a plausible story about how they discovered it and when they decided not to prosecute they confirmed that their evidence was too tainted to stand up in court.

Spitzer was the Bush Administration blackmail ring's warning to other victims that they were not afraid to use their info---and Dems did the wrong thing in failing to get behind Spitzer.

Just watch. Even when Rove and Bush are out of office, the next administration and Congress will be too scared to prosecute because Rove will take all the blackmail info with him.

7. I hate to have a tin foil hat
But it does call into question Deborah Palfrey's "suicide", and if there was anything on these guys, how it may not be now.
It's so odd too, because Republicans don't like "big government"

6. Remember when we used to think that FISA was too intrusive? Now we look to it as if it is middle
ground.

"FISA courts always lean in the direction of the government and are seen as nothing more than a rubber stamp of government intrusion on your civil liberties and a license to spy on citizens at will."

That used to be the way FISA was seen by many when it was first introduced. Now the country has shifted so far to the right that FISA actually looks moderate by comparison.

How sick and depressing is that?

8. Financial hit men take Spitzer down
Greg Palast has the scoop on the Spitzer hit.

http://www.gregpalast.com/elliot-spitzer-gets-nailed/

<snip>
Bernanke’s Fed, for the first time in its history, loaned a selected coterie of banks one-fifth of a trillion dollars to guarantee these banks’ mortgage-backed junk bonds.

And that very same day the bail-out was decided – what a coinkydink! – the man called, ‘The Sheriff of Wall Street’ was cuffed. Spitzer was silenced.
