Here's the video of the invocation at the New York State Republican Party dinner last night, delivered to a crowd including Rudy Giuliani and Rep. Peter King, and where Dick Cheney later spoke.

In it, the priest, Monsignor Jim Lisante mockingly asks God to change Obama's mind and volunteers to replace Rev. Jeremiah Wright as Obama's pastor.

"One more thing, Lord. Please tell Senator Obama that maybe change is a good thing and maybe he should think about changing his favorite preacher," he said, to applause.

"I know a lot more of us would be comfortable with his judgment skills if he hadn’t sat for 20 years through those words offered by his preacher of division, bigotry, and – honestly – half truths without a word of objection from Senator until the media brought it up, and now he doesn’t want any part of the guy," he said.

"I’m willing to be his new preacher."

1. Maybe I should as Monsignor Lisante about the Catholic church protecting child molesters?

Maybe I should ask Monsignor Lisante about the anti-Catholic comments made by pastor hagee, and why he doesn't have a problem with that?

16. His parish could care less
I just called and the woman answering the phones is about as disinterested as could be. Guess it's letter writing and blasting this video out for larger audiences to see.

Shame on him.

7. religion and politics is sure a toxic mix, ain't it.
I guess if priests and ministers feel a need to be involved in setting the tone of governance in this country in their favor, their businesses should be paying taxes like any other business. They get police and fire protection and first ammendment protection.
And that unconstitutional fucking faith-based initiative crapola should be stopped today.

8. I wouldn't have that guy for a preacher
He can't seem to decide if he is a minister or a stand-up comic. Not that he's funny, but he is playing to his audience. Such reverence he has when invoking the Creator of the Universe. Or not.

10. The Catholics are really changing
As they cozy up to the Republicans, it's really hard to tell where Catholicism ends and Republicanism begins. That is one reason why I left the "Cult of the Fetus". It just got too wierd for me.

11. ""And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites..."
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him" (Matthew 6:5-8). -Jesus of Nazareth

I'm about to send this to the good Monsignor.

Along with this:

"To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 'Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: "God, I thank you that I am not like other men-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get." But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, "God, have mercy on me, a sinner. I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted"'" (Luke 18:9-14). -Jesus of Nazareth

I don't care whether people consider themselves Christian. I don't care whether any individual has personal faith. I do care, deeply, however, when people use the banner of Christianity to lead an army of amoral incompetents against Reason, Common Sense, and Basic (read:Christ-like) Humanity.

13. This is worse than anything I've seen because he was saying
this in a PRAYER to God!! While other preachers have given their sermons/opinions from the pulpit they have not used a direct prayer to God. I find this repulsive.

19. He has to READ his "prayer".......?
Sounded like a string of one-liners written by Cheney to me.
This was NOT a prayer. At all.
He should be ashamed of himself as a "man of God",
smiling and smirking to applause during his spectacle.

He is Not reverent at all.
Disgusting. Right wing hack. Disgusting.
