Could he just present some facts, such as how many inspectors does the FDA and USDA employ to run around inspecting every tomato grown in the USA, or Mexico for that matter (he makes fun of the FDA not knowing where to inspect in Mexico). Of course, his repub and libertarian friends would like nothing more to gut these agencies as much as possible, so that they can claim to their sheep how pitiful the government is.

Repubs want to cut regulation, cut taxes, cut spending (oh wait, they seem to luv spending now), downsize every federal agency, but, oh, boy, when theres some salmonella-laden tomatoes, boy do they want those regulators then....
