IMO, there are lot of heroes and sheroes in the Moon tale. People like Steve Hassan who after being a member, became a mental health therapist pioneering a kinder gentler way for people to exit cults.

Then there is Donald Fraser who headed the congressional investigation of Moon’s organization in the 70s. The moonies accused him of being a tool of Satan. Get that? The moonies accused Fraser of being a tool of Satan.

Then you have people like Allen Tate Wood, once a Moon leader now he is one of the more eloquent critics of the group. You can see him featured in the BBC documentary Emperor of the Universe.

There are way too many former members who are heores and sheroes to mention here. You can read some of their stories here or watch one former member being interviewed in part 2 here.

Robert Parry for his reporting on Moon when others ignored the subject is another hero. More recently John Gorenfeld whose blog somehow gets passed over whenever blog awards are handed out. John forced, yes forced, TV news to cover Moon’s crowning ceremony at the Dirksen Building in March of 2004.

But imo, none of these people are as big as THE heroine of this sad tale than Nansook Hong, Moon’s x-daughter in law. At 15, Nansook was brought to the USA by Moon to be matched with his “sinless” first son by the current marriage and, at the time, the likely heir to the Moon throne, Hyo Jin Moon.

She escaped from the clutches of the Moon organization with her five children and wrote about her experience in a book called In the Shadow of the Moons.

Gutsy, here are couple things she has said ….via Robert Parry’s review of her book:

Nansook Hong wrote that Moon "demonstrated contempt for U.S. law every time he accepted a paper bag full of untraceable, undeclared cash collected from true believers."

In an interview with Time.com she said:

“… I think that (George H. W.)Bush has been helping Moon to achieve his goal.”

In the clip posted here, you have 60 Minutes, prodded by Nansook’s book, doing something that the media in the USA have hidden from doing – actually covering Moon, a man who has outpsent anyone bringing hard right theocratic politics to power in America. The man who has spent BILLIONS in overseas cash manipulating our political system.

The excerpt clip begins with Nansook describing her x husband who beat her when she was pregnant. Also one of Moon’s estranged daughters appears and tells the same story that Nansook does, that when her husband beat her, Sun Myung Moon and his “Co-Messiah” wife blamed her for not being a good enough wife.

Yes, this is the same Sun Myung Moon that George Bush 41 travels the globe honoring as the “man with the vision” and who the head of the Christian Coalition of Louisiana presented an award for his “family values.”

the old testament layout of sin or Sin was summarized in the New Testament in the gospels, which of course, has as many interpretations as there are denominations and store front churches.
Be ye Perfect, can be interpretated many ways; not often as being a disciple. Being ascetic is not being a disciple. Coming on the wings of Glory, forcing the coming of the Kingdom of God, is not being a disciple. Relying on grace and prayer,likewise.
