Completely...

His comments started because AN AMERICAN (not Bush - NOT someone significant to YOU and ONLY you! from an American perspective, but an American, just like you)...made a incredibly stupid comment that virtually every American would think was a fairly normal observation.

-- mostly everyone else in the world is talking about whether, "Iran will be America's Poland moment" and Americans are simply inventing new words like 'surge', 'Islamo-fascism' or the truly laughable 'Iranian-made IEDs' to expand on the existing insane ideas that American don't really examine outside of their partisan domestic politics.

Basically all that's happened, is that the half century of propaganda spewed from the American Empire just isn't even convincing Americans anymore

-- so 'outsiders' are naturally going to consider the relative merits of regimes that hang homosexuals and regimes that want to teach Bible stories in science class. We'll leave it to 'individual' Americans to get all annoyed about what they perceive to be their personal 'moral' authority on this or that issue, whether it be at home, abroad, everywhere.

And just like any extremists who have unpopular ideas (world conquest, for instance) and employ violence to achieve it, they want to avoid democratic consensus.
