1. What a condescending asshole.
I hope we kick him out of the party. He belongs with all the other assholes.

2. The commercial compares him to two skanks.
I didn't get "good young man" out of the celebrity commercial.

13. Racist undercurrent evident . . . .
"Young man" is the underhanded racist way of inferring "boy" a term very negative to African Americans.

5. Wonder if he thinks McCain is a good "old man". I recently noticed
in a weekly TV magazine that in the film, Die Hard, Willis is called Officer John McClane. Expect to see the film on mutiple TV channels around election time.

10. well, it's shown just about weekly on AMC...
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 04:19 PM by progdonkey
I think I've watched it about five times this year alone, because it's almost always on and is a good fallback when it's a boring day on TV (though I always get a little depressed when the cop is at the gas station and you see the price for unleaded then was around $0.74/gal... if only!).

It really is an action movie classic, though; you should catch it some time. It'll probably be on AMC again in a few days. ;-)

15. I love Leone's spaghetti westerns because thefantasy is highly stylised,
almost apocalyptic.

Of course, everyone's taste differs, and there's no arbitrary right or wrong, good or bad, at least as regards films for public distribution. But I can't imagine liking a Bruce Willis action film. Though I've nothing against him personally, he doesn't seem to have a hinterland. He strikes me as a kind of cardboard, action-hero cut-out, so I can't imagine liking any film he was in. Not that it's his fault, or Segal's or Schwarzenegger's or Stallone. They seem type-cast for them.

They're films that would encourage youngsters to forget that those neocon so-and-sos exert more power by lifting up a telephone than any action hero. Not good. Youngsters need to become more politically sophisticated. Saving Private Ryan was a step in the right direction, in that the Germans weren't all terrible shots, and the GIs sniper-class.

19. but that's why it's good...
He's not a superhero in it, and they do set up a good backstory for him. And with Alan Rickman as the bad guy, it had to be great!

I can understand what you mean, though, since the sequels pushed John McCLane more into "action hero" territory (in Die Hard 3 he runs all over New York city and then jumps from a bridge onto a ship far beneath... and not only doesn't die, but doesn't break any bones!), but the first one is a legitimately good movie and a classic action movie.

Segal movies (with the huge exception of Under Siege, which is more a "movie with Steven Segal" than a "Segal Movie," and therefore actually pretty good, and Executive Decision, where they kill him off early, and therefore also enjoyable ;-)) are a complete joke, and Arnold's always a superhero/Terminator in his action movies.

With Stallone, it's the same sort of thing as with Bruce Willis and Die Hard. You should probably check out First Blood (aka Rambo part 1), where it was actually relatively realistic and had a rather good story--but then he became "RAMBO" and basically took a huge piss on the first movie and became that "cardboard cut-out action hero" you mention.

24. It's good to hear your analyses. Not all action films are garbage, for sure.
I love the ones I love! Kurosawa's "Sushi" epics, too, unsurpisingly, given they were the source(sauce?) of the Spaghetti dishes!

8. I'm tired of hearing how 'young' Obama is.
He's 47. Three years and he can join the AARP. Hell, I'm his age, and no one at work calls me a 'young lady'. In fact, the only people who do are my aunt's 80+ year old friends.
Why do Republicans thing you have to have one foot in the grave to be POTUS anyway?

14. Today he was "Rude-ly Joe"
He interrupted Kerry at every possible opportunity. Then h'd just keep smiling and wouldn't stop talking loudly over Kerry, even though he knew good & well how rude he was being.

Obviously he's been taking a video correspondence course on "How to Dominate The Conversation Your Opponent On (Fox) TV Talking-Head Shows By Taking Your Turn and Also His." I'm sure his diploma is due to arrive in his mailbox any day now.

21. In the recent Florida heckling of Obama ...
I respect Uhuru Movement's right to speak of issues important to them, causing them to heckle Barack.

But I submit to you, if McCain had been so 01*-+3

0-9

(teehee! One of my kittens walked across my keyboard ... the above is what he typed. I thought it was cute so I left it.)

*a hem*

But I submit to you, if McCain had been so heckled, the hecklers would have been promptly escorted out. They certainly wouldn't have been handed a microphone. And for what it's worth, McCain would've promptly forgotten what the well spoken young man said, anyway.

I'm just sayin'.

how in the hell can you allow a individual to flat out disrespect you to your face and you continue to respect him. Right now they should be attacking him night and day.
