1. Actually, it was a very relevant question
I realise that Galloway's stance on Bush and Iraq makes him something of a hero there but over here, he's still regarded as an irksome tick, even if he is right on that one issue and from what I can tell, he did carbetbag to the area and exploit racial tensions to get elected.

3. I can't remember what it was now, but I heard information concerning
her campaign that didn't at all redound to her credit.

4. True
It was a pretty ugly campaign all around.

6. It's very loaded question
It is an accusation disguised as a question.
I agree with Galloway the implied accusation is to preposterous to respond to.

7. And unbelievably cheap, shallow, even infantile, for a supposedly
serious interviewer.

At the end of the interview, Paxman made some infantile jibe, characteristic of his general role in the interview, to which George should have loudly exclaimed, "Excellent! Well done, Jeremy!", then turned away. Instead, he let Paxman cut him, as he turned away from him. But heck, that night, George was on a "high", and had bigger fish to fry. Who wouldn't?

This is not, however, to say that I don't deplore his stance against Israel, but I like to judge issues and the stances people take on them, on their merits, or such merits as they may have. And the "education" he gave to those BS-artist Senators in some of the most elementary truths concerning US foreign policy and actions in Iraq, was monumental, epic.

2. Paxman isn't an MSM talking head for nothing.
We don't have any tradition of Olbermans and his like that you have over there. Far from it.

Paxman is a company man to his finger-tips, like all the rest of them. So not the sharpest tool in the box. None so blunt as those that will not cut.

11. Are you telling me the mediatocracy is actually worse in Britain?
I never would have believed that.

have your incredible blogosphere.

They were rabid supporters of that baby-sitter/nurse, as far as I'm aware, simply because she is English! It fits their m.o. to a tee.

Today, they are championing soldiers of ours in Iraq, who were responsible for the death in custody of an Iraqi hotel worker, found with more than 50 wounds on his body. They are depicting the senior officer, who wasn't actually present, as a scapegoat, martyred by the government for daring to indict him. As if the sadism had been effected while they were under heavy fire fom the enemy! The stress they were under at the time was shocking. There may have been mortar fire, but that's war.

The Nazis retreating from vengeful Russian troops in hot pursuit could have offered the same "defence" for wasting the rural hamlets and villages they passed through. But with more reason, albeit as notional a reason as could be imagined. Until, that it is, this case in Iraq.

The fact is, as in every other sphere of life, the army has its share of psychopaths, and in the situation out there, the treatment of prisoners should be carefully monitored. We are the ones waging a war of aggression, not the Iraqis. It's bad enough that they should be summarily arrested and "roughed up" on suspicion, without allowing our most thuggish psychos loose on them.

But they're English! Our troops, don't you know? On your blogs, if it had happend on your patch, there would have been an uproar on your blogosphere, and I'm not sure the MSM would have been quite so degenerate as to hail the perpetrators and their superiors as martyred heroes.

Incidentally, though some have been acquitted by the court martial, and I believe the case is ongoing against others, I believe one soldier had the integrity to own up to being guilty of a war crime, the first ever on record (though wars, of course, particularly by countries with an imperialist history, must be choc-a-bloc with them). But an asymmetric war????!!! Where most of the time they're just guessing who the enemy/freedom fighter is?!!!

I was of the impression that the people of Britain are fairly liberal compared to Americans. One would think that that would provide the news media enough cover to criticize their own government and troops. They certainly seem capable of providing better news coverage of the US than our major press. When you take these two things together it sounds like what you are saying is that the British press is very nationalistic.

On edit: I missed the English nurse thing, what was that about

14. There was an English girl working as a nanny in the US, who was
alleged to have killed her little charge.

I believe some of her abuse was caught on a video the parents had set up. I can't remember her name now. How she got off I can't imagine. In the UK, yes. Only people of voting age and probable inclination are of any consequence to the courts. And even that, less and less. So, a particularly arrogant nationalism is just one of our media's perversions. But everything's out of control now.
