Got Milk? Get Fired
http://www.alternet.org/story/10832/
...
The story Fox tried to kill involved rBGH milk, which is produced using Monsanto's recombinant bovine growth hormone. We documented how the hormone, which can harm cows, was approved by the government as a veterinary drug without adequate testing of how it affected the children and adults who drink rBGH milk.

1. And so Faux reports that Faux is completely vindicated..
I'm sick.

I'm so sick of the MSM and most especially that criminally greed and power driven lying butt orifice network. I think Faux has maybe almost singlehandedly corrupted the minds of all but two of my extended family.

2. Amazing story.
Great people. I hope they are doing okay.

We need a new television news station. We need a new Ted Turner. There must be someone somewhere...

3. First time around I forgot to recommend it.
This really should be seen far and wide.

Please recommend it, people! So people will see it.

I was kind of amazed to learn that people don't know how evil Mon****o is, but on further consideration, I realized the only reason I know about it is because I have worked on indigenous issues, and Monsanto is destroying small farmers everywhere in the world, just as it is destroying the gene pool of food grains, and forcing us to use food that makes rats sick.

4. Does this happen at real news networks, too?
It's a fair question.

5. Check out "The Insider"
Edited on Sat Feb-17-07 11:01 AM by rman
a docu drama about CBS and the tobacco industry.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0140352/

"Balls-out "60 Minutes" producer Lowell Bergman sniffs a story when a former research biologist for Brown & Williamson, Jeff Wigand, won't talk to him. When the company leans hard on Wigand to honor a confidentiality agreement, he gets his back up. Trusting Bergman and despite a crumbling marriage, he goes on camera for a Mike Wallace interview and risks arrest for contempt of court. Westinghouse is negotiating to buy CBS, so CBS attorneys advise CBS News to shelve the interview and avoid a lawsuit. "60 Minutes" and CBS News bosses cave, Wigand's hung out to dry, Bergman is compromised, and the CEOs of Big Tobacco may get away with perjury. Can the truth will out?"

7. That's a sad point about modern capitalism
It's not about quality products and services, it's about bottom lines. There is little competion, so the consumer has few alternatives and most of the alternatives are cutting corners on quality as well.

Here we have two stories about news organizations, which are supposed to keep the public informed, failing to do because of the potential costs involved.

11. Of course. Do you think NBC will run an expose' about GE (their parent company)?
Or ABC will do an investigative story about Disney or any of it assets?

Or CBS will do an investigative story on their child Westinghouse?

12. Of course not
That's what makes it a fair question.

Even beyond that, the Fox case has less to do with adherence to a right wing, pro-corporate ideology as with the threat of a that would effect advertising revenue and the CBS case cited about was much the same story substituting the tobacco industry for Monsanto.

6. Wow Excellent story K&R
In wisconsin (Milk is our middle name) there was a big movement against BGH, finally they agreed to label milk BGH free as such, but now I never see BGH free milk, I'm sure Monsanto put the kibosh on that and fairly quickly, I live in the country and often see dairy cows with painfully huge udders, they can barely walk straight they are so swollen with milk, it is cruel and sick what some people do to us and poor animals just to make a buck.

Greed is the root of all our problems I think.

9. Maine has rBGH free dairy but has to state that rBGH milk is A-OK
that there is no difference between regular milk and milk created by rBGH laden cows. That was the only way they could get the right to say their milk was rBGH free.

14. Didn't that result in a kind of "David vs. Goliath" lawsuit...
I seem to recall a few years ago when a small diary advertised that its milk did not contain this, but was sued by a huge diary corporation because that implied it was bad. So the little company had to remove the label.

Maybe this was a "Goliath vs. David" instead.

Here is more info:

Corporate Criminals

Monsanto, Eli Lilly, Upjohn, and American Cyanamid are the four corporations that stood to profit from the $500 Million to be made from worldwide marketing of rBGH. While they all competed to develop rBGH, only Monsanto has continued to develop and market it. The first 3 of these four companies are convicted corporate felons. All 4 of them have a history of chemical plants that explode, toxic waste spills, deadly toxic gas cloud releases, consumer pharmaceutical products that kill people and produce birth defects, conspiracy to fix prices, antitrust violations, predatory and monopolistic practices, and/or failure to inform Federal officials of testing results indicating fatalities connected to their products.

Monsanto, one of the top 10 polluters in the U.S., is the same corporation which brought us Agent Orange and PCBs (a chemical so toxic that congress banned it in 1976). They have exposed many workers to toxic chemicals such as benzenes, PCBs and dioxins, often covering up such practices. They’ve been found guilty of conspiracy and anti-trust in marketing of herbicides and have violated federal law (despite government warnings) by promoting rBGH before its FDA approval. They've blatantly attempted to bribe Canadian officials (who admitted it) in order to hasten their approval of rBGH. They also have an apparent conflict of interest with their regulators (FDA) in that they share the same lawyer (Michael R. Taylor of Washington, D.C. law-firm, King & Spaulding). Monsanto and FDA have ganged up on any markets which try to label their milk and dairy products "rBGH-free" by threatening to sue (and actually suing some). The FDA and Monsanto have both lied about the existence of a test for rBGH in milk (stating that there is none). Monsanto has tried to block publication of research from British scientists on rBGH showing the hormone’s link to increased somatic cell (pus and bacteria) counts in milk as a result of mastitis.

Upjohn has been found guilty of willful and wanton conduct and conscious disregard of public safety in manufacturing a drug so toxic that one patient was blinded when the drug was injected in his eye. They’ve also been found "grossly negligent in marketing a defective product -- Halcion," a drug which made users "paranoid, aggressive, suicidal and totally irrational", and has been related to a number of murders.

Eli Lilly marketed DES, a drug designed to prevent miscarriages (later found ineffective), which exposed 5-10 million people, causing vaginal cancer and birth defects. In 1982, federal investigators had linked one of Eli Lilly’s anti-arthritis drug to the deaths of at least 26 Americans. The drug was pulled from the market, and Lilly eventually pleaded guilty to criminal charges for failing to inform federal officials that the drug had been tied to deaths and illness in other countries.

ejnet

And this...
Whenever cows are forced to produce more milk, they become more susceptible to udder infections called mastitis. Mastitis is a condition which can increase the amount of cow’s pus which ends up in the milk. Monsanto's own data shows that there is a 79% increase in mastitis (udder infections) and a resulting 19% increase in somatic cell counts (pus & bacteria in the milk). In fact, the warning label on Monsanto’s Posilac drug (their brand name for rBGH) explicitly states: "Cows injected with POSILAC are at an increased risk for clinical mastitis (visibly abnormal milk). The number of cows affected with clinical mastitis and the number of cases per cow may increase.... In some herds, use of POSILAC has been associated with increases in somatic cell counts ." The warning label goes on to say "use of POSILAC may result in an increase in digestive disorders such as indigestion, bloat, and diarrhea.... Studies indicated that cows injected with POSILAC had increased numbers of enlarged hocks and lesions (e.g., lacerations, enlargements, calluses) of the knee...and...of the foot region."

Just what I want to give my kids: pus-ladened milk! :puke:

13. BGH-free milk is widely available in the Twin Cities
It there, but perhaps not in your rural area. Here in the metro area, it is widely available at most major grocery stores and all the premium grocery stores and coops. Talk to your local merchants and patronize the one (if there is one) who makes the effort to get it for you.

15. Is there also BGH-free cheese, ice cream, etc.?
The list of consumer products which contain cow's milk or milk products (e.g., cream, whey, etc.) is endless. Are any products other than whole milk available with a "BGH-free" certification?

8. This needs to be on the greatest page. K& R. (Falsifying the news isn't against the law!)
Unfucking believable. How much did FOX have to bribe the Florida courts to rule in their favor?

I'm so sick of the absolute corruption that has permeated and perverted every aspect of this country.

Florida court's finding, vindicating FOX News and destroying the careers of the whistleblowers:

"Falsifying the news isn't against the law."

17. It is simple, it is easy...
The current state of Corporatism is indeed one of the base rots to our current dilemma. You must support other lines of commerce. Corporations are designed to make money, plain and simple. Feel free to debate this issue, but as for me: it is the basis of many of the wrongs that we are being faced with. Big Agro business, oil, pharma, credit card companies, etc... Do not support them if you can. Not only does it make sense in a moral way, but also in a real practical approach. They a re the snake oil sales of our time. Use the product, and you leave yourself open to harm. Some may perceive this as paranoid, yet the evidence is overwhelming in how this monstrous form of capitalism is destroying not only our way of life, bu this planet's very existence. Buy local, buy small, if you can afford it,
buy safe.

I didn't know what else to do so I wrote everyone I could think of to complain along with links. I don't know how much good it will do but hopefully, if the word can be spread at the very least people can make informed choices and not buy rBGH milk or dairy products.
