I am struck by the fact that he always does these things to lower expectations. The Democratic Convention was artful. It was planned to build to a crescendo from the spectacular stage to the fireworks and confetti it was worth watching again. The Republican Convention was bound to appear weak by comparison. The selection of Palin was another. She is so weak but has that usual issue pander to a minority faction that vote on the strings that can be plucked by emotion and she makes him look like he is competent, less emotional, in control. The debates where Obama was coming in with the momentum of the handling of this crisis on his side. Obama, intelligent, thoughtful, a great speaker and ahead in most polls. Now McCain can say that he was working so hard on our country's problems that he didn't have time to prepare. Oh, it won't be that overt. It will be his pundits that frame it that way. This is a pattern we don't need. Another Bush - set the expectations low and continually fail to meet them.
