David Letterman's take on the VP debate.

Dave is still giving it to McCain.

Oh, and here's a link to Dave's Top Ten messages on Palin's answering machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0pVLBtoSSI

1. That was pretty darn funny.
I think the most hilarious thing of all were the people trying to say that Palin "held her own" last night. She was just as embarrassing as she was on Couric, only this time with longer sentences.

24. Her delivery was smoother in the debate than in the news inteviews, but that's relative.
She rarely answered the questions. She just responded by injecting her catch-phrase talking points regardless of how irrelevant they were to the question. And that winking--geez, how transparent and fake can you get.

And yet, I heard some people at work the next morning talk about how they just loved her and the fact that she's an outsider who doesn't know the ins and outs of the VP's job the way Biden and others may, that just makes her more appealing.

When I hear people talk like that, is it any wonder we're in a war that we had no business starting? Or that our economy could very well be on the brink of collapse? We don't elect people on qualifications anymore. We elect them because we think we can have a beer with them. Or they talk like some country hick, just like me and my neighbors.

When I see the stats showing how the U.S. has lost its world standing in areas such as education, health care, per-capita spending on infrastructure and other areas, it doesn't surprise me one bit. Not when I hear people tell who they vote for and for what reasons.

71. perfect VP
Palin is proving to McCain that is will be the perfect VP for the McCain-Lieberman-Palin ticket. She will 'look pretty' lead whatever cheers the man want. Stepford VP. I'm serious- what other reason can there be?

I just don't see her appeal! I'd like to think that other middle-class people like myself agree that she's simply not qualified to be VP. I have serious doubts if she's even qualified to be a governor! Perhaps my expectations are simply too high...

11. We just have to portray her in ways other middle class people can identify with.
For me, she's the person chosen by corporate to fill a vacancy at the office.

She doesn't seem to know a thing about the business and she alienates everyone with her bullshit, but no one has say as to whether she can stay or go.

Next thing you know, she is given a promotion over other people infinitely more qualified than she is.

Or something similar.

Not to mention his conversation with Brian Williams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puHITWjTc_Q and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmzeLsj8rbI)

McCain will soon be regretting how he treated Dave.

he was Xeroxing at my job in the 80's at Seattle Art where I was in the process of Unionizing (lost my job over that, even though they are supposed to be able to protect you), and I noticed WHO it was. TOld him that I knew of his history and that of the Unions, etc, and it would be an honor to shake his hand, a very gracious man.. so many people who worked there hadn't a clue as to the Unionization this guy has been involved in, getting his ass beaten in fields all over the US playing from the back of a truck for workers..

on her debate performance. Williams had to be diplomatic and remain as objective as possible, but Letterman just kept coming after him with one remark after another.

The thing is, I agreed with most of what Letterman was saying.

64. I think Dave would have mocked Palin regardless of McCain but
He's going at it with much more gusto since McCain blew him off. This is a stretch but if McCain can't read David Letterman well enough to know not to fuck with him, how will McCain handle leaders of foreign countries? I think we all know the answer is that McCain thinks being a "Maverick" means he doesn't have to play by the rules and that is NOT going to fly when it comes to international relations. Clearly the Republican party doesn't give a shit what the rest of the world thinks of us but the fact of the matter is that we no longer have the economic or military power to back that attitude up.

65. Yeah, Dave would have mocked her anyway, but you'd think McCain gave him
a permission slip for it. I couldn't agree more that the Republicans have gone out of their way to solidify the image of the ugly American world wide and also that McSame has no idea what a maverick really is. Palin is a truly subversive choice for a ticket that would finalize the wrecking of the USA, EXCEPT we will not let that happen.

Said button was, when removed, found coated with a layer of snot and blood and was quickly discarded.

74. Palin is the next Karl Rove
Palin’s refusal to answer questions at the debate reminds me of Karl Rove. The House Judiciary Committee who is investigating the firing of the US Prosecutors because they did not go along with the Republican agenda subpoenaed Rove. Rove was subpoenaed and refused to show up. Palin and her husband were subpoenaed in Alaska in the Trooper gate scandal and they both refused to show up. I guess the Republicans don’t have to honor the law like the rest of us. In the debate she says she wants more power as a VP. She is already breaking the law and no one is doing anything about it. Palin is a typical Republican who believes she can wink and the law will look the other way.

77. Great editing.
More truth here than there was in Palin's performance at the debate.

Can someone please tell her:

a) It's pronounced, "nuclear," and
b) There's no such thing as a "team of mavericks." It's an oxymoron.
