1. No it won't. Whatever the outcome, will have nearly no effect on
election.

2. I cannot imagine anything more anti-climactic...
...but the media will flog it, ad nauseum.

3. It was my first guess back in August
What Will Be Karl Rove's "October Surprise" This Time? (From August 28th)

Be assured that there will be an October Surprise in this election cycle. In fact, there may be multiple surprises. And we can also be assured that the surprises are already planned and in the hopper ready to drop with military timing and precision. But what are the surprises that Democrats can expect?

Here's what I see:

1.) Saddam Hussein's first trial is expected to deliver up a "verdict" and "sentence" in, you guessed it, October! October 16 is the exact date: just two weeks before the mid-term elections! The press releases and chest-thumping theatrics are already scripted for Republican Congressmen and Senators and are now "in rehearsal" at Fox "News" and White House-friendly corporate media outlets which will maximize the spin on Hussein's capture, trial and sentence. Democrats = Weak on Terror and America's enemies. Referenced news story: http://www.greenwichtime.com/sns-ap-saddam-trial,0,5041...

4. I think Saddam and the Saddam trial are "yesterday's news."
Everyone knows a conviction is a foregone conclusion. To me, and I hope to others, putting Saddam in the headlines again is just a reminder of how long we have been wasting American lives in Iraq and how little satisfaction there is in Saddam's "trial."

5. What will it get them?
No one is paying attention any longer.

I still think that Karl Rove has something planed for this week

6. If the verdict comes before the election...

and if Saddam Hussein's lawyer is correct, it will result in an increase in violence in Iraq.

Of course this is not something that one should hope for, but if it happens, it may work against the Republican party.
