2. Great cover.
Interesting production, as well. They took the studio version and shot the video over it.

I had never heard the guy, before.

But something awful must have happened to his face.

3. He's married to Heidi Klum!
I don't think he's too worried about his face.

Wikipedia: "Seal got his famous characteristic facial scars as a result of discoid lupus, which, additionally, caused some hair loss."

His song "Kiss From A Rose" went to #1.

7. I have never heard of Heidi Klum, either.
Maybe I should start paying more attention.

14. Whoa!!
Maybe I should get out more.

I am so in the dark, when it comes to popular culture and entertainment.

I doubt I have seen five movies in the last twenty years (not counting musical documentaries), and all but two of those were watched at home.

The only radio I listen to is NPR, occasionally (that's how I learned who Sting is).

News Hour, Olberman, 60 Minutes and Maddow are pretty much it, as far as TV goes.

As far as music is concerned, I like it live. And there is no shortage of live music around here. Sometimes the live music is mine.

I read the NYT, the SF Chronicle, and the Marin IJ, but only the first sections of each.

But I have a whole lot of fun, and I love Life.

17. Tom - I Do Not Own A TV And Yet Still Find A Way To Keep Up With Some Popular Culture
My information channel is the Internet.

Here are three more examples of cool popular culture.

One is from sailing and features the ORMA 60 trimarans few Americans are aware of but the French are crazy about. This music was created just for this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ8vd9p8fDU&feature=related

Did you know that in France that there is a whole cadre of professional sailors?
Here is a link to Sobedo being sailed around the world by Thomas Colville, as we eat and breath, to break the single handed, non-stop, around the world record. The present record stands at 57 days 13 hours 34 minutes and 6 seconds set by Francis Joyon in January this year.

Finally, here is a fun link to the travels of Matthew Harding. Most people can't help but smile at this video.

Enjoy,

18. I have sailed on Geronimo.
Geronimo, as you probably know, is the largest and fastest trimaran on the planet.

http://forums.sailingworld.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=146&cat=500&ppuser=1621

My girlfriend was in the market while Geronimo was anchored off Corinthian, having just completed a record-breaking run from Japan to San Francisco.

The skipper was asking about California wines, in French. GF is fluent in both CA wines and French and helped him out.

He asked her if she knew where the crew could catch some real American Blues. She called me and told me to grab a couple of guitars and head down the hill to Corinthian.

We drank wine and played music and sailed around San Francisco Bay, all night long.

Last month, I played a gig on the Maltese Falcon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Maltese_Falcon_(yacht)

It was a $5,000 per plate fundraiser for the Leukemia Society.

For a non-sailor, I have now been on the two coolest sailing ships that have ever graced the waters.

I will check those links you sent.

I really appreciate that, lnf.

8. I don't listen to radio.
I never know what the hell is going on.

Heck, I only realized who Sting was a few weeks ago.

I think I had heard some of his stuff and read his name, but I never put it together.

I think that guy is a bit pretentious.

15. everyone can be perceived to be pretensious
believe it or not, there are people comfortable in their own skin, content to live as they choose that are perceived to be pretensious by others - success, no matter how defined, can give confidence and confidence can be mistaken as pretensiousness.

I enjoy his music, a dear friend introduced me to it several years back when I needed to feel connected. Ever since, when I hear his music, I think of that dear friend and the connections he offered and the paths he uncovered and the paths he reminded me were there all along.

My favorite Seal song/music is Love's Divine

9. i first heard of seal
when batman forever came out back in... i think it was 97 or 98. he came out with that song, "kiss from an angel" or something like that. good song, i like him. he's got a good voice and he doesn't act like many of the r&b singers of today (talking about being players etc...).

So by definition he is not part of the bling, bling American hip hop culture.

10. Here Here Riverwalker!
Mr. Seal is OK with me but seriously, he's not even in Sam Cooke's league. Cooke is one of the all-time greats! Sam's version still puts a chill down my spine 35 yrs after first hearing it. DUers who aren't familiar with Sam might wanna pick up his Greatest Hits Collection for many hours of soul-stirring pleasure. It makes a great X-mas gift as well. Get one for yourself for all the hard work you've put in to help Obama get elected. Oh, and the upthread comment about Sting being pretentious has got to be the understatement of the week!
