5. Thanks. I know an 80+ year old lady who was kicked out of Scientology
because she got too old to work for them. She had been living with and working for them for 30 years with no Social Security or retirement benefits or anything. Fortunately, she had the family she'd deserted who was willing to take her back.

It's a disgrace that this org is allowed to continue under the guise of religion.

8. The Mormons don't kick their elderly out, do they?
After taking their whole paychecks for decades?

14. yes, if they no longer wish to be Mormon...Plus, mandatory tithing of 10% of your gross salary
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 11:14 PM by percussivemadness
over one`s life time can add up to far more than scientology...People ridicule scientology for their beliefs, however, noone ridicules Mormon beliefs, even though their basic belief structure has been proven to be a fallacy. Now, lets also talk about the regarding of women as mere "baby machines", the elders rituals in the sacred temple, the fact that a woman can only get into heaven assuming her husband tells her her special "name", and for that to happen she must be subservient to him at all times. Then again of course we have the belief that "native americans" are cursed, black people are inferior, homosexuality is unnatural and much much more.

I understand that scientology is a scam and hardly a religion (though that depends on one`s definition of religion), however, compared to Mormonism, it is like comparing burglary to mass murder.

15. The 80 year old wanted to stay with the Scientologists. They kicked HER out
because they thought she was too old to work for them anymore.

You don't understand that there's a whole group of Scientologists that are much more involved than the people who just pay for some courses. All she had was room and board from them -- no earnings to show after living and working with them for 30 years. And no pension, and no Social Security. That's much worse than tithing 10%. And the worst thing is, she still considers herself a Scientologist -- they're the ones who decided to off-load her, not the other way around.

I've never heard of anything comparable to that in Mormonism.

16. then you need to do your research
I am not disagreeing with you in respect of scientology, however, you are defending mormonism, which shows you how little you know about this insidious, evil cult that America allows to exist and flourish in our midst.

17. Mormons tithe 10%. Scientologists who work for the org get their room and
board as long as they can produce -- and when they're too old to work, they're dumped in the streets, with nothing.

Explain to me how the Mormons (who remain Mormons) are worse off.

18. It's hard to believe, I know, but there are many other stories like hers
out there.

Here's a link I just found.

http://www.upperbridge.org/claire-reppen.html

"The picture below was taken in Clearwater on Sunday, December 6, 1998. One sees an emaciated Claire Reppen, a "Star of the Team" and by then a "senior Citizen" being made to do hard Labor on a Sunday.
One can, but ponder what kind of organization makes the elderly do hard physical labor even on Sunday for essentially no pay, so that it does not have to pay outside contractors to build its Christmas lights and decorations
This is one of the last pictures taken of Claire."
