Not SNL's greatest moment. . .
Here's a link to the full sketch:

(They still haven't posted the "Doogie" short film.

1. we saw this last night, and thought it was offensive
we didn't think that calling her different "names" associated with he sexual orientation was funny.
What if Rachel were black? Would it have been funny if they had called her Sambo? or Uncle Tom? or Darkie? -- I don't think so.

Bad move for Saturday night live.

In fact, if someone had actually done that with her in real life...after listening to her and watching her for the past few years -- she would have said something to the interviewee.
She would have been polite, even --but she wouldn't have accepted that kind of treatment.
I've heard her too many times give a good rebuttal, when things WEREN'T even directed at her.
Pat Buchanan has never even talked to her like that.

The Kathy Lee Gifford skit was marginally funny. Neil Patrick Harris was the only thing funny about it.
The Broadway skit was badly acted.

After that we turned it off.

6. Yeah, and the person playing her did not really have her down.
Looks were OK, voice was completely off, facial expressions were just tics.

4. I really hate to break it to everybody...
but SNL basically went from irreverent to irrelevant about 1977.

7. oh I don't know, they went after Keith. and he took it in stride
I saw that last night and didn't watch it all... since I don't watch SNL. never really watched it... still remember an episode from 92 or 93 I watched while parents were out when some guy meets another and says "Hi, I'm Harry. Harry Vagina"

I figure if your parodied on SNL, you've made it. Just drives more viewers to the show. From Keith's big head on Letterman to Keith's about to have a stroke impersonation on SNL.. he took it pretty good.

8. Right you are.
I felt the same way about the Maddow skit as I did about the special prosecutor question asked on the talking head show this AM. Just happy to see it recognized on broadcast network TV.

10. They go after Keith's content much more
With the "YOU MUST RESIGN, SIR" bit. This was just really ugly. I'd be embarrassed if I worked there.

13. Bingo!
Thanks for pointing that out. The 1st season I thought was funny about 30% of the time....and I was in college then! What grown ups even watch it now?

9. That skit really sucked
In the past SNL always opened up with a killer skit, but that was just totally lame and offensive.

14. In the past SNL always opened up with a killer skit,
Uh....no. No it didn't. Always? More like once in a blue moon.

Seems to me if you wanted to make her Lesbian status funny, you'd find some humor in it besides name calling. The problem really is her sexual preference is of no importance as far as her show goes. I mean, does it ever come up? Only when some Right Wing wacko tries to seem more "Family Values" oriented than everyone else.

12. Did not like it at all.
The play on words/names to emphasize Rachel's sexual orientation was ridiculous. If that is the only thing the found worthy of focusing upon regarding Rachel, they are truly pathetic. They could have done a great spoof on her debating Buchanan, for example, or a ridiculous version of Talk Me Down.

The lady didn't look or sound enough like her either.

22. I think that's what they attempted to do, instead it was a major fail
Because with the exception of a republican who was on who called her Sir, there's been no on air anti-gay references to Rachel to parody. Unlike Archie Bunker, or Melvin Udall, characters who say vile things and we know it's the character, this seemed more like the writers just making lame gay jokes.

17. Absolutely disgusting homophobic drivel
NBC should apologize to Rachel, an employee of theirs, and the gay community as a whole. Just replace her in that skit with a black person or a Jew. Do you think it would have passed the joke censor smell test? I don't. It's a perfect example of how the gay community is treated by society.

18. One of the worst skits I have ever seen ... Not funny and plain stupid
The girl who played her obviously never watches or listens to Maddow much. There's so much potential in making fun of Maddow and they just completely fucked it up. The writers who gave her and the others the lines aren't very good at humor either.

19. Lame, even without the lesbian jokes
Saturday Night Lame is back to their usual substandard writing. Rachel's funnier on her show than they wrote her on SNL.

21. SNL has never been funny. I don't know why it's so popular.
The writing is lazy, the jokes are lame, the impersonations are bad...
