A story in the Dayton Daily News January 27th edition reports on the City of Dayton's decision to stop issuing arrest warrants for those who fail to show to court for a minor misdemeanor, and instead, issue warrant blocks on their driver's license, effectively making it entirely feasible for someone without a driver's license who doesn't plan on getting one to smoke pot while jaywalking with no fear of any concrete penalty.

Here's the story link to the newspaper's coverage:

1. Notice how incovenient it becomes to give out public intox tickets when
it no longer is profitable?

It's ALWAYS about the money.

5. Some of us think pot smokers are thugs
...and to be clear :

If you believe pot smokers are within their "rights" to do it, despite the law, then I expect to see some serious organizing on your part to get that drug legalized.

With Obama in charge, if you aren't moving to get it legalized, then turn in your vaporizer.

Until it's legal, it's illegal. Even Amsterdam is losing interest in the coffeehouse arrangement.

9. Amsterdam is rethinking its "coffeehouse arrangement" ...
not because of problems with the users but because of violence associated with Moroccan gangs fighting for control of the limited legal market to supply the coffeehouses.

3. You guys can't read
This is not a victory against morality police. It's a simple economy problem.

This is about the City of Dayton just about totally broke. Every piece of news is gloom & doom in Dayton.
They simply can't afford any extra manpower to track down misdemeanors.

4. it's not cost-effective to begin with

It's a victory against the morality police because it shows:

We can't have room for both rapists and reefer smokers in the jails, and what a waste our "morality" policing truly is.

Focus on the thieves and thugs first.

7. Thats why I'm anzious to see what Obama's new A.G. will do
in this regard. Common sense law that doesn't waste tax-payers money on BS like chasing pot smokers.

How about spending more time on the bankers who are ripping off the public? Or other corporate white-collar scumbags?

8. Agreed.
Same with our AG in Wisconsin announcing no criminal charges for less than an ounce of pot. They simply couldn't afford the glut of prosecutions. Whatever the case, it is my opinion when police cannot afford to enforce the laws on the books, like them or not, it is an indicator that we are deep shit here.

12. Unfortunately it's a sign of a lot more than that.
You are right of course. Had we addressed the absurdity that is the 'War On Drugs' ten years ago we wouldn't be where we are right now.

Some very powerful industrial interests have no plans to compete with cannabis. They couldn't. Others want it kept illegal as it keeps them in a job, able to seize assets, justifies outrageous budgets or fees, etc. Until that power vacuum is addressed we won't make any headway on the issue.

But the city not having enough money to enforce laws on the books, like them or not, is NOT a good thing. It is an entirely different issue imo.
