It's long past time someone pulled this strange animus against Howard Dean apart and told the Democratic leadership to get the hell over it. Dean has proven himself right and effective, loyal to the party and brilliant at strategy and winning elections, time and again. Enough already.

1. K & R, this is a great clip.
I listened to it via podcast last night. And it's impressive that he called out someone on MSNBC, all things considered.

10. Actually that worries me
if Cenk is calling out Chuck Todd...that either raises the possiblity that the MSNBC deal ain't gonna happen, or...I dunno, maybe Cenk doesn't care if it doesn't happen...

Or most likely: Cenk's got too much integrity to hold back the truth.

I ONLY HOPE MSNBC HAS THE BALLS AND THE BRAINS TO HIRE CENK AND PUT HIM ON AT 10.

Cenk is TOO truthful when it comes right down to it. After all - MSNBC IS a Corporation. It's unrealistic to expect someone to stomp their own foot if you ask them to!

...is why the party "insiders" hate Howard Dean.

He called them out on their enabling shit in '03.

He told the truth, and that is unacceptable.

GREAT RANT, Cenk!

7. I'm not gonna lie...
the first time I found that video on
the internet, I CRIED.

After crawling from the wreckage of 9/11,
Dean was the ONLY politician out there
who gave voice to GRAVE CONCERNS.

We are ALL suffering from the political
maneuvering of the Bush Administration,
and our own craven "Democratic Insiders", whose
strategy was to "let them hang themselves
with their own rope".

We have ALL been hung by that rope.

Edited on Fri Mar-06-09 01:42 PM by cascadiance
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19677.html

The Rev. Jesse Jackson once derided the group as “Democrats for the Leisure Class.” As recently as 2004, then-presidential candidate Howard Dean said the DLC, with whom he clashed over the group’s backing of the Iraq war and other issues, was “the Republican wing of the Democratic Party.” The liberal Daily Kos blog once vowed to “make the DLC radioactive.”

...

Go against the DLC? Go against Rahm Emanuel and the corporate Democrats... Go against corporate K-Street lobbyists and therefore against the corporate media lackeys as shown here... Electoral success is secondary to them. Keeping the corporate money train going for their buddies is primary. Dean was about electoral success but not the latter. Of course the corporate folk can't admit what their real goals are and expose their anti-populist agenda. They just try to smear Dean in other and sometimes more obviously ridiculous ways.

23. They have stolen the thunder of what he did
and they are scared of him. They realize what he did for them and might do for someone else in the future. They would like to just disappear him from the radar. The most blatant case of a stab in the back I have ever seen. Tod and corporate media are just tools working to bring something they hate (the dems) to heel and it seems to be working. Howard needs to form his own dem organization and raise bundles of money on his own and show the DLC for what it is; A bunch of phony dems living off the accomplishments of true dems.

28.  Standing of Howard Dean . . .
It is my opinion that Dean is feared because he makes others look totally inadequate. He's intelligent, energetic and completes his goals as promised. He was an extremly successful governor ... and definitely a real winner in managing the strategy of the Democratic Party. He accomplished successfully what he planned. To those with less success, he is a threat!

He, without doubt, should have been named HHS Secretary. Personal grudges should not be entertained as part of evaluating for job placement. Obama goofed here!

31. It's because the Dems are cowards...
...Dr. Dean represented that portion of the Democratic Party that the DLC and the Clintonistas didn't want to talk about. They were afraid to acknowledge that the left is what has provided the heart and soul (or at least what should have been the H&S) of this country. They were ashamed to call themselves even left of center, much less Liberal. Howard gave us someone to follow, to hope that maybe this time we'll have someone that doesn't equivocate on every position possible. He told the Party that he was gonna stand up to Repugs everywhere and show the country that the Dems do have gonads and will spit in the eye of anybody that tries to ridicule and belittle us...and they, the DLCs and the Clintonistas couldn't stand it - in 2000 or over the past three years that he's been head of the DNC.

I still get about a phone call a week trying to get me to contribute to the Democratic Party once again. I tell them that when the Democratic Party gives Howard Dean the credit and the respect he's earned and the position of responsibility in the Obama Administration that reflects that credit and respect, then I'll start contributing again. Meanwhile, I'm just renewing my commitments to Democracy For America and hope that it can be a launching pad for another Dean run for the Presidency, whenever that may be.

35. DFN as soon as I know Dr. Dean is going there...
In the meantime, I was fired up after seeing the Cenk thing, and when the mail came, there was a letter from the DNC, which I now feel is an extension of the DLC (and cronies, Carville, Begala & Emanuel). About a month ago, I quit my monthly donations to the DNC, but I was glad to see the their envelope so that I could again voice my admiration for Dr. Dean.

So I put in for total donation under "other" - $0.00, and in large letters wrote HOWARD DEAN, with some little hearts. Think they'll get the idea?

When you're 70, you can do stuff like that :)

48. I saw the Chuck Todd clip in real time
and I almost kicked in my television. Grassroots support for Steele? WTF is Todd talking about? Why does MSNBC treat this airhead like some kind of political guru? When has he predicted or added insight to anything?

Howard Dean has a strong, grassroots base because he earned it by running for President as the only voice for anti-Iraq War Democrats and by revolutionizing fundraising and webroots support.

Michael Steele has no base because he was picked out of nowhere to be the GOP Black Hope. Steele is liked by insiders or they wouldn't have picked him. Dean had to work his supporters hard to get elected chair of the DNC. They cornered local DNC members in their states and asked them to support Dean and his 50-state, grassroots strategy.

The Dean/Steele analogy is completely stupid. It's comparing apples to prunes as far as I'm concerned.

50. I have no great admiration for Chuck Todd
but he referred to "Democratic insiders." While I was ticked off that he uttered Howard Dean's name in the same sentence with Michael Steele, PERHAPS he was referring to Beltway folks (DLC) and not the incredible grassroots support Dean still enjoys. If that's what he meant, he should have added something like "Steele is not equipped to be as successful as Dean in mobilizing his party."

As always, Cenk dishes out a great rant.
