Look at Grace Slick. She was so young.

1. I've consistently laughed at Madonna...
...because in spite of all of the meticulously-crafted "outrage," Grace did it first and Grace did it better. She wrote the book on owning the stage with her middle finger proudly raised high.

just like a ball and chain." stamping her foot, eyes closed, mouth down on the mic'...without a doubt the best performance ever. It brings tears to my eyes. Saw the "Airplane" in '70 at Penn State, Grace was 6 mos. pregnant and still ,her voice filled rec' Hall and nailed you to the wall....Damn , memories of an aging hippie!....Britney spears be damned.

6. Grace and Janis
The two greatest women rock singers of all time. Bar none and I was lucky enough to see them both.

10. Thank You
I loved the Airplane in high school. It was my band along with The Band. Was going to see them and Traffic in Dayton OH with a friend but I lost my wallet and had to cancel. ;(

They have lost a lot of their following, but their music still holds up. "The House at Pooneil Corners" is the most powerful antinuke song I have heard -- a real tour de force. Some of the best ones, like "Have You Seen the Saucers," are scarcely even known. To me, "We Should be Together" is the quintessential expression of the 60s -- shouting in angry harmony.

And for all those who dump on the Starship, "Dragonfly" is IMO one of the most popular recordings ever made.

11. "Today" is one of my favorite songs, ever...
...but I don't know why this clip cuts the first verse, then keeps the camera on Grace even though she's only singing (a barely-heard) backup to Marty Balin. Well, on second thought, I do know why they keep the camera on Grace, but it isn't for musical reasons. ;-)
